Job summary

Pilot Company in Knoxville, Tennessee, is seeking a Safety Intern for the summer of 2027 to gain hands-on experience in safety management systems, risk reduction, and operational excellence while contributing to programs that protect team members.

You will support development and enhancement of safety programs, analyze data from observations and audits, and collaborate with teams across the business to strengthen Pilot's safety culture.

Qualifications

• Education: Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Excel is essential, including the ability to work with data, create graphs, and utilize basic formulas. Experience with PowerPoint and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders across the organization.
• Qualities: An outgoing personality, a willingness to work independently, and the initiative to take ownership of projects.

Responsibilities

• Support safety program development: Assist with the creation and enhancement of safety programs, procedures, and policies designed to reduce risk and promote safe operations.
• Gather and analyze safety data: Work with inspection, audit, and operational data to identify trends, support leading indicators, and help inform future safety initiatives.
• Develop safety solutions: Research workplace risks and hazards, observe operational practices, and help create procedures and recommendations that improve safety performance.
• Collaborate with business partners: Work closely with Retail Operations, Energy Operations, and other stakeholders to understand safety needs and support continuous improvement efforts.
• Create and deliver presentations: Develop PowerPoint presentations, one-page safety communications, and other materials used to educate and engage operational teams on safety initiatives.
