Desired Qualifications
  • Education: A high school diploma or above is preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Skills: Good verbal and writing skills in English, organizational and classroom management skills are a must.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading individuals in educational activities is highly valued.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to use computer programs and other software related to the classroom.
  • Experience using Therap is highly desired.
  • A firm belief that individuals with developmental disabilities have the right to work in the community.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Sensitivity to and respect for the personal preferences of individuals.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor are required.
Professional Responsibilities and Duties
  • Learn and follow Instructor's program routines to enhance the learning environment.
  • Assist and reinforce classroom management strategies set by instructor.
  • Will assure health, safety, and welfare of individual served at all times.
  • Assist instructor with attendance procedures and follow emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Will work creatively with various group settings, such as group and one-to-one settings.
  • Will assess the needs of the individual and provide guidance to participate in program activities.
  • Keep accurate record of individuals going out of classroom for bathroom, therapy, field trips, etc.
  • Encourage/help individuals to participate in classroom activities by actively engaging with individuals.
  • Provide feedback to social services staff on individuals' progress in class.
  • Inform social services staff in regards to individuals' behavioral, health, and safety issues.
  • Assumes classroom responsibilities when instructor is out. Assist instructor with tracking of individuals' goal in Therap.
