Job description

SMX is seeking a Financial Analyst to independently deliver services to clients through the demonstration of deep financial functional knowledge within the context of our organization. They lead and administer the financial management of a TDL(s) under a large contract. They are responsible for all the financial activities in support of that TDL. They are members of the program management team and work with the Sr. Financial Analyst and the Program Manager to meet the overall contract goals and objectives. They interface with TDL Project Manager, senior technical staff, and other functional organizations including Contracts, Subcontracts, Finance, Accounts Receivable, and Procurement. They oversee and direct work assignments of Jr. Financial Analysts who support their TDL but will not serve as career managers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of the TDL or small contract, including cost, schedule, and funding planning, reporting, monitoring, and analysis to support the TDL Project Manager. This includes Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), Basis of Estimates (BOEs), and development of time-phased budgets and schedules.
  • Lead TDL project setup in compliance with contractual terms, conditions, and requirements.
  • Ensure cost reporting documentation is correct by performing analytical reviews and arithmetic checks.
  • Prepare TDL Project financial Estimates at Complete (EAC) and meet submission deadlines.
  • Identify TDL Project risks and profit improvement opportunities; provide analytical contributions in financial resolutions with PM, Contracts, Procurement, and Finance/Accounting.
  • Monitor TDL and manpower costs weekly, ensuring actuals are within budget and correctly charged. Process incorrect cost transfers as needed.
  • Prepare accurate TDL variance analysis and reporting.
  • Monitor TDL funding status, including subcontractor funding, providing timely notifications by line-item detail.
  • Support accounts receivable during billing, reviewing TDL edit files to ensure billed costs are accurate and allowable.
  • Build relationships across functional teams and internal business partners.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent data management, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance if required by the program.
  • Knowledge of all contract types (CP, T&M, FFP).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project cost control, financial management, and contract interpretation, or 4 years' experience with a related degree.
  • Experience with Joint Travel Regulations (JTR) rules and guidelines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint.
  • Ability to analyze data from multiple sources, research, and resolve financial problems and program risks.
  • Manage and direct work of junior staff; prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) preferred.

Highly Desirable Skills:

  • 4-5 years of office experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

US citizenship is required for work under DOD contract.

The SMX salary range for this position is $66,600—$88,800 USD.
