JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/ Objective

East Side House (ESH) is a 501(c) (3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. ESH has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement and through its youth education and technology programs, it teaches skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent.

Under the supervision of the Senior Director at PS 179, the Program Director will be responsible for the overall development, implementation, and supervision of the COMPASS Afterschool programs. There is an expectation to develop and lead high-quality, innovative programming for our middle school participants.

Essential Functions

  • Provide oversight and direction to part-time program staff of COMPASS after school program and summer camp.
  • Recruit, hire, orient, and develop program staff.
  • Provide supervision to all program staff and delivery of services on a day-to-day basis.
  • Responsible for participant recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for school administration, parents, and other community entities.
  • Prepare and evaluate mid-year performance reviews of program staff.
  • Facilitate monthly team meetings.
  • Set, communicate, and enforce clear standards for quality youth development programming.
  • Participate in ongoing efforts to advocate for program needs.
  • Provide and maintain a safe program environment.
  • Seek partnership opportunities and bring in at least three new partners a year.
  • Create quarterly community events, special events, and workshop series.
  • Assess programs quarterly to ensure community needs are met.

Administrative:

  • Ensure attendance tracking and reporting.
  • Respond to all electronic and phone communication within two business days.
  • Ensure compliance with DOH regulations.
  • Coordinate and execute all major events and activities.
  • Prepare a monthly calendar of events.
  • Create a budget plan that supports program needs.
  • Collaborate on cross-borough and agency-wide events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of After Schools.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent of 5+ years in youth services preferred.
  • Master's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with Bronx communities and resources.
  • Experienced in designing, planning, and implementing structured programs.
  • 2+ years in supervising more than ten program staff.
  • 2+ years of budget, contract, and grant management experience.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • High level of proficiency in administrative work.
  • Capacity to thrive under pressure while managing multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of the public education system.
  • Strong public speaking, writing, and organizational skills.
  • A team player with a commitment to working with urban youth.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish preferred) a plus.

  • Department of Health Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Department of Education Fingerprint Clearance.
  • State Central Registry (SCR) Clearance.
  • Staff Exclusion List (SEL) Clearance.
  • Health Statement.

Work Environment

Corporate casual in a professional office environment.

Expected Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday and some Saturdays.

Travel: Primarily local during the business day.

Physical Demands: The employee must regularly talk or hear. This is generally a sedentary role; however, some filing and site visits are required.
