Job summary

South University seeks a Program Director – Undergraduate Nursing to join our faculty and take on an administrative role overseeing the program(s). The individual will lead classroom instruction, manage day-to-day operations, guide student progression, and collaborate with admissions, financial aid, and campus leadership to ensure program viability and high-quality learning experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Perform instructional duties as assigned in accordance with faculty position description.
  • Develop and lead a Program Advisory Council (PAC) meeting at least twice per year.
  • Participate in faculty development annually as required.
  • Recruit, train, and lead regular and adjunct faculty.
  • Partner with campus leadership to generate a strategic enrollment plan.
  • Outline outreach activities to generate a prospective student pool.
  • Collaborate with counselors, admissions, financial aid and student services.
  • Administer and grow the program including curriculum development and assessment.
  • Support initiatives to improve student completion rates.
  • Coordinate scheduling and resource sharing with leaders and DOAAO or Campus Director.
  • Notify leadership of changes affecting accreditation or authority to operate.
  • Prepare programmatic reports and documentation including graduation and job rates.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation and state regulatory criteria.
  • Participate in campus events such as orientation and ceremonies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Director – Undergraduate Nursing is a member of the faculty (rank commensurate with experience) who also holds anadministrative appointment related to managing a specific programor programs. Responsibilities include: classroom instruction,day-to-day program operations, assisting students toward successfulterm-by-term progression and graduation, partnering with Campusleadership and the admissions, academic support and financial aidstaff to generate a prospective student pool, partnering with theCampus President or Director to maintain program viability, andstaffing the classroom with instructors who support the Mission ofthe University and provide a high-quality learning experience forthe student. The Program Director engages in professionalassociations, businesses and the local community as necessary topromote the visibility and stature of the program(s). The ProgramDirector abides by the mandates set by the South University Boardof Trustees, Chancellor, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, theCampus President or Director, and the Campus ExecutiveCommittee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Perform instructional duties as assigned as outlined in thefaculty job description and in accordance with the provisions ofFaculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook.
  2. Select and develop a Program Advisory Council (PAC) that meetsat least twice per year.
  3. Participate in faculty development each year as required.
  4. Select, train, develop, manage, and lead regular and adjunctfaculty according to the guidelines provided by the CampusDirector/Dean of Academic Affairs, the Department Chair and inaccordance with the policies and procedures of theUniversity/Campus.
  5. Partner with the campus leadership (Director and/or Dean) togenerate a strategic enrollment plan for the program.
  6. In partnership with campus leadership, develop and support aplan for outreach activities to generate a prospective student poolsufficient to sustain and grow the program, consistent with thestrategic enrollment plan.
  7. Collaborate with academic counsellors and admissions, financialaid and student services personnel to assist with enrollingqualified students.
  8. Effectively administer and grow the program(s) includingcurriculum development, program assessment, studentregistration/advisement, and community and campus relations.
  9. Support and execute as needed University initiatives designedto achieve student completion rates as outlined in the University’sstrategic planning.
  10. Collaborate with the Campus Director or Director of AcademicAffairs and Operations (DOAAO) and fellow Directors and with theAssociate Dean concerning: scheduling, sharing faculty, curriculumand other issues to support student learning and facilitateefficient resource use.
  11. Notify the Associate Dean and Campus Director/DOAAO of anyexpected or unexpected substantive change within the program and ofany change in institutional accreditation status or legal authorityto provide postsecondary education.
  12. Facilitate the submission of required programmatic reports anddocumentation, including graduation rates, performance on statelicensing or certification examinations and employment rates.
  13. Support College-level initiatives and directives to maintaincompliance with accreditation and state regulatory criteria andadhere to all University and campus policies and procedures. In theabsence of a Department Chair, partner with the College Dean tooversee accreditation activities on his/her campus which arenormally handled by the Department Chair.
  14. Participate in program-related Campus events as indicated,including New Student Orientation, Pinning or other ceremonies,graduations, etc.
  15. Other responsibilities as determined by the Campus Dean ofAcademic Affairs or Campus Director, and Associate CollegeDean.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • PhD (or other appropriate terminal degree) from a regionallyaccredited university strongly preferred, especially for graduatelevel programs. Master’s degree with both significant experienceand college-level teaching experience minimally required, if theprogram offers only associate’s or baccalaureate levelprograms.
Experience:
  • A minimum of two years successful performance in a full-timeuniversity-level teaching role and prior management experience inhigher education or in another organization within the programdirector’s discipline
  • Experience with computerized administrative systems. Proficientwith the use of standard office applications on personalcomputers.
  • Online teaching experience is a plus.
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret and implementaccreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
  • Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees,students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic orbusiness community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to faculty, academicand campus leaders, university leaders, and public groups.
License:
  • Unencumbered RN License
