Program Director/Instructor Ophthalmic Technician

Position Overview

The Program Director/Instructor will maintain the Ophthalmic Technician program. Responsibilities include developing laboratory facilities, curriculum, hiring faculty, establishing clinical contracts, acquiring and maintaining COA accreditation, and preparing the annual program budget.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the day‑to‑day operations of the Ophthalmic Technician program.
  • Develop and update laboratory and course materials.
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise faculty members.
  • Establish and manage clinical partnerships and contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with COA accreditation standards.
  • Prepare and manage the annual program budget.
  • Instruct courses in face‑to‑face, hybrid, online, and dual‑credit formats.
Qualifications
  • Associate Degree and Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA).
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience in ophthalmic technology.
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience in a COA program.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COA) eligible to practice in Texas.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of Ophthalmic Technician programs and COA accreditation.
  • Ability to develop and deliver curriculum across multiple formats.
  • Excellent instructional, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to creating a respectful and inclusive learning environment.
  • Availability to teach evenings and weekends as required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COA) – eligible to practice in Texas.
