Lead with Purpose. Re-Engage Students. Build Futures.
At Good Shepherd Services (GSS), we believe in the power of second chances—and third, if that’s what it takes. Our Transfer Schools are safe havens for young people who’ve been pushed out or left behind by traditional systems. As School Director at Brooklyn Frontiers High School, you’ll be at the helm of this work: co-leading a 12-month, DOE-partnered program that helps over-age and under-credited students re-engage with school, reclaim their potential, and reimagine what’s possible.
We’re looking for a visionary leader who believes that education is a powerful tool for liberation—and knows how to build the relationships, systems, and culture to make it happen.
Who You Are:
- A strategic leader with at least 5 years of supervisory experience working with vulnerable youth populations
- A collaborator who can co-create a shared vision with a school principal, motivate staff, and lead with empathy and accountability
- A practitioner of positive youth development, trauma-informed care, and restorative practices
- A problem solver who thrives in fast-paced, mission-driven environments, with a deep commitment to educational equity
- Someone who takes initiative, adapts with resilience, and sees challenges as opportunities to innovate
Key Responsibilities:
Your Impact:
As School Director, you’ll serve as the operational and programmatic leader for GSS’s transfer school partnership at Brooklyn Frontiers. You will:
- Co-lead the school with the Principal, shaping vision, policy, and daily operations
- Supervise and support a dedicated team of Coaches (counselors), Internship Coordinators, and Admins
- Supervise attendance outreach, counselling, post secondary planning, referrals and collaborative work with NYC DOE
- Facilitate ongoing professional development on youth/family development, trauma-informed care, restorative practices, and more
- Manage the government and private contracts, including budgeting, reporting, and funder relationships; proven track record required
- Lead the development and delivery of career readiness programming, including internships, post-secondary planning, and student orientations
- Maintain strong partnerships with the DOE and other key stakeholders
- Co-develop and manage grants and budgets, in partnership with GSS leadership
- Oversee student recruitment, attendance outreach, post secondary preparation; parent engagement, data management, and ongoing evaluation to ensure program quality and growth
- Ensure high-quality programming year-round, including summer school, internships, and Saturday Regents prep
Qualifications
You Bring:
- Master’s degree in social work, education, public administration, or related field (preferred)
- Familiarity with New York City Department of Education systems
- Experience working in or with transfer schools or alternative educational settings required
- Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to advocate effectively
- A passion for re-engaging youth who’ve been underserved by traditional systems
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and attend retreats
- An unwavering commitment to social justice, team collaboration, and youth voice
- A sense of humor and joy in the face of challenging, meaningful work
What We Offer:
- A chance to be part of an innovative, equity-centered model serving students who deserve another chance to succeed
- A dynamic, supportive team and the opportunity to shape the future of an entire school community
- Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package
- Access to ongoing training, retreats, and leadership development
- The deep reward of helping students graduate, thrive, and step into their futures with confidence
