The Assistant Director, Health Equity Operations will be responsible for implementation and oversight of initiatives to measure and positively impact health disparities and social determinants of health for UI Health patients. The individual will demonstrate effective and collaborative leadership by working with administrative and operational teams across the organization to identify best practices and achieve buy-in to align protocols and policies with a health equity lens.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Program Management
  • Lead evaluation and analysis, including success metrics. Share and use data to help create and understand the impact of programs to advance health equity. Develop reports, presentations, and evaluations to share outcomes and productivity throughout the system.
  • Lead assigned internal and external initiatives to address health equity needs of UI Health patients and communities. Manage quality improvement efforts focused on addressing health inequities.
  • Develop, manage, and evaluate clinical and operational initiatives and processes to support safe, timely,
  • efficient transitions of care, throughput, and improved patient outcomes across the health system.
  • Integrate shared leadership and foster collaboration across multiple disciplines to arrive at decisions affecting the department.
  • Develop and deliver training to health system regarding health equity initiatives at implementation and ongoing as necessary.
  • Finance / Budget Management
  • Responsible for adherence to approved budget.
  • Participates in contract negotiations and/or preparations.
  • Monitors budget and expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Project Management
  • Manages quality improvement efforts focused on addressing health inequities.
  • Manages efforts to improve access to healthcare, address social determinants of health, and reduce disparities in the healthcare delivery system.
  • Provides detailed data analyses and comprehensive reports to understand the impact of the department’s initiatives to advance health equity.
  • Develops metrics to monitor health equity initiatives’ financial impact to the organization and patients.
  • Participates in relevant organizational committees and subcommittees, including the Health Equity Committee and UIH Green Team.
  • Conduct research and co-write the organization’s triannual community health needs assessment and implementation plan.
  • Policy Management
  • Oversees the development and implementation of operational and programmatic policies, standard operating procedures, and workflows.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Develop and maintain hospital and departmental policies and work practices and procedures to ensure adherence to current regulations and best practices in accordance with Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS), The Joint Commission (TJC), and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) requirements.
  • Monitor and evaluate operations for compliance with licensure, accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure proper health equity data capture and reporting to other departments.
  • Prepare program audits for the State and other regulatory bodies as required.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A total of three (3) years (36 months) demonstrated work experience leading and managing multidisciplinary projects in a healthcare setting (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working directly with the community, patients, and providers, particularly in UI Health primary service area
  • Knowledge of health equity programming and social determinants of health
  • Excellent communication skills required, customer service skills, ability to train at different levels throughout organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent planning and implementation skills, including problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to manage resources and coordinate across multi-functional areas
  • Ability to direct multiple projects and tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Process improvement experience and/or certification
