Company Description The GRAND RIVER AREA FAMILY YMCA is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to strengthening the community by investing in youth, health, and neighborly support. The Y offers a wide range of services, including fitness classes, youth sports programming, Buddy Bags, senior activities, and special events that enrich the lives of children and families. Relying on donors and volunteers, the organization focuses on helping individuals and families in need within the local community. To ensure access for all, the YMCA provides need-based financial assistance for memberships and program participation, promoting healthier, more confident, and connected community members.

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Program Director provides leadership and oversight for all YMCA health and

wellness and sports programs at the Grand River Area Family YMCA. This position is

responsible for program development, staff and volunteer leadership, budgeting,

scheduling, and risk management while ensuring high-quality programs that support

the YMCA mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Two – three years related experience preferred, as a coordinator orsupervisor.
  • Within 45 days of hire, completion of required training: Child AbusePrevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR, AED & First Aid Certifications;Bloodborne Pathogen; Sexual Harassment.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social andeconomic segments of the community.
  • Have strong communication, customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Needs to be a self-starter, able to handle multiple tasks under limitedsupervision, work well in a team setting, and be detailed oriented.
  • Have experience with and knowledge of computers.
  • Possess a positive and professional attitude.
INTERPERSONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and maintain relationships with parents, volunteers, communityleaders, members, participants, and peers. Respond quickly to all inquiries,concerns, and complaints.
  • Perform and provide excellent customer service skills by exceeding expectations.
  • Answer phones, direct calls, and provide accurate information about theprograms.
  • Always have a friendly helpful attitude and wear a smile.
  • Work as a valued team member of the management team.
  • Actively listen, reflect, and respond to customer questions and concerns in acaring manner. When an opportunity presents itself, go above and beyond toresolve the situation immediately.
  • Handle accidents and emergencies in a comfortable and confident manner inaccordance with the policies and procedures.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of special functions & projects.
  • Serve as a resource person to the YMCA Membership/Program Committeeand the Branch Board of Directors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage, direct, and coordinate all the programs assigned (youth and adultsports and health and wellness programs).
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with communityorganizations.
  • Manage day-to-day operations in assigned programs in accordance with thestrategic plan.
  • Develop a high functioning staff team. This is accomplished through recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and leading staff.
  • Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staffand achieve goals.
  • Research, facilitate, and build quality programs that provide excellentmember satisfaction.
  • Establish new program activities and expand programs within the communityin accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develop, manage, and control budgets related to the position. Ensure programs operate within budget.
  • Ensure that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures arefollowed.
  • Maintain proper records and department files.
  • Organize special events and assist in YMCA fundraising activities.
  • Assist in marketing and distribution of program information. This includes,but not limited to, newsletters, emails, mobile notifications, open houseevents, and vendor fairs.
  • Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness ofprogram participation.
  • Responsible for keeping an equipment inventory and for the storage ofprogramming equipment.
  • Follow all personnel, program, and state policies.
  • Work in conjunction with the membership staff providing the highest qualitymember onboarding experience possible. Develop specific programs for theonboarding of new and existing members and specific programs to enhancemember retention.
  • Provide leadership, be knowledgeable, and supportive of the YMCA AnnualCampaign.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by CEO.

Supervise the program staff, program aids, and program volunteers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit,stand, walk, climb steps, or balance; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects,tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; smelland hear. Specific vision abilities, persistent vision, peripheral vision and depthperception, computer work and the ability to adjust focus. Acute hearing skills arerequired. Have sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essentialfunctions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the individual may occasionally be exposedto humid conditions. The typical noise level in the program is moderate but could beloud. The individual may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals occasionallywhen/if working with the cleaning supplies.
