YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is seeking a part-time Sr. Group Leader to supervise and guide Power Scholars programs after school in Washington, DC.

The role focuses on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, with emphasis on safety, structured activities, and parental communication. The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, be CPR/First Aid certified, and obtain a CDA within 18 months.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED required; CDA within 18 months of employment.
• Current CPR and First Aid Certification required; TB test documentation may be required.
• Must meet local criminal background/fingerprinting requirements.
• Must meet county/state licensing requirements and have ability to relate to parents and children.

Responsibilities

• Implements the program per YMCA goals and School Age Curriculum.
• Effectively carries out lesson plans.
• Establishes structure and routines for children; sets boundaries and behavior guidelines.
• Ensures children's safety and understands emergency procedures.
• Attends parent/child events as required and communicates with parents throughout the year.
• Maintains a clean, attractive classroom at all times.

Responsibilities

• Implements the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA, the School Age Curriculum (i.e. Creative curriculum)
• Effectively carries out appropriate lesson plans
• Establishes structure and routines for children setting boundaries and behavior guidelines
• Responsible for the safety of the children at all times, including understanding and being able to implement emergency procedures as necessary
• Attends parent/child events as required
• Effectively communicates with parents throughout the program year
• Maintains an attractive and clean classroom at all times

Schedule

Monday - Friday 3:00pm - 6:00pm

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have high school diploma or GED. Obtain CDA within 18 months of employment. Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
• Documentation of physical examination and TB skin test.
• Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting.
• Must meet the county/state licensing requirements.
• Must have the critical skill of being able to relate to parents, school staff and children and have a positive, creative attitude.

Working Conditions

• Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
• Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children.
• Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds.
• Must have visual acuity to observe all children.
