ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) aims to promote the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income communities. Today, CPC is the nation's largest Asian American social services agency and offers more than 50 programs at over 35 sites throughout New York City, including early childhood education, school-age care, youth services, workforce development, community services, and senior services. CPC strives to be the premier social service and leadership development organization. In 2017, CPC launched Advancing Our CommUNITY, its organization-wide strategy to expand services to address persistent needs and emerging trends and to improve leadership skills among staff and community members. PROGRAM SUMMARY

The Multi-Social Services Center (MSS) is a walk-in center in Lower Manhattan that aims to meet the needs of the Chinese and immigrant community to assist recent entrant families adjust to their new environment in America. Our staff consists of bi- and tri-lingual and bi-cultural staff reflecting the diverse cultural background of our community. MSS assists community members with various entitlement applications such as SNAP, health benefits, and fair housing, translation of various benefit forms to aid families make the transition, ensure child health and wellness, and ease the burdens of seniors who have worked hard in the community for many years.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Multi-Social Services, the full-time program coordinator will provide assistance with immigration benefits as part of the vital team within the Office for New Americans (ONA) Opportunity Center. The coordinator will engage in multi-faceted activities to reach communities in all boroughs to result in a greater number of families enrolling into immigration benefits. Task will include naturalization and various other immigration applications, legal support coordination, relief assessment, and referral as needed.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the program, including the management of case files, compiling quarterly progress reports, and other statistical reports as required by funding source.
  • Provide direct assistance to clients on Naturalization and various immigration applications.
  • Monitor and follow up with clients on all immigration applications completed.
  • Provide direct assistance to clients on immigration law clinic days.
  • Coordinate required immigration law clinics, business seminars, citizenship drives and community and education seminars.
  • Oversee the recruitment, supervision, and training of volunteers for Naturalization Assistance
  • Network with community organizations on all services provided by our ONA center
  • Responsible for attending all media events and outreach events and creating press releases and public service announcements.
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the agency regarding the ONA grant.
  • Other related tasks assigned by the program supervisor/director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum high school degree or equivalent with at least four years of direct services experience or bachelor's degree in social science or related field

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong work ethic and demonstrated passion for working with immigrant and low-income communities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills.
  • Bilingual in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) and English a must.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be DOJ accredited (partial or full) and in active status. If the candidate is not recognized/active at hire, they are required to apply for accreditation at the start of the program and is expected to maintain active status throughout the program.
  • Candidates must be flexible with work schedule and must be available on weeknights, and/or weekends.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW

  • $21.97 - $23.07 per hour; 35 hours per week with occasional evenings and weekends
