About the Role
The Program Coordinator II – Active Transportation is responsible for Ecology Action’s comprehensive school and community-based bicycle and pedestrian safety education initiatives, namely the Bike Safe and Walk Safe programs.
What you'll be doing
Student Engagement and Education
- Engage students during in-class presentations and assemblies.
- Manage and conduct on-bike safety training on school premises.
- Lead walking field trips in the school neighborhood.
- Set up and dismantle obstacle courses for training.
- Foster a positive learning environment for children
- Contribute to student safety in their neighborhoods.
Program Delivery and communication
- Schedule, coordinate, and track data related to the programs.
- Spend time in the office for administrative tasks and fieldwork at schoolsandthe generalcommunity.
- Evaluate student assessments before and after presentations.
- Ensureaccuratetimesheet hour allocation across cost centers.
- Track and report program data accurately and according to deadlines.
Event Coordination and Education
- Collaborate with school principals, teachers,CBOs,and staff to schedule events.
- Organize and conducteventsrelatedtoeducation, encouragement, and community engagement.
- Prepare and assemble necessary materials, including paperwork, bicycles, helmets, and safety equipment.
- Maintainthebicycle fleet and related equipment in a safe, functional, and program-ready condition by conducting routine inspections, preventative maintenance, basic repairs, inventory tracking, equipment transport and setup, and coordinating advanced repairs and maintenance as needed.
- Provide in-field support and guidance to program volunteers, student intern onboarding, training, coordination, and management, asrequired.
Community Interaction
- Foster a positive learning environment for children.
- Contribute to student safety in their neighborhoods.
What We’re Looking For
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a youth education or teaching role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be qualifying.
- Proven experience with community outreach and education.
- Must obtain and maintain certification as a League of American Bicyclists Licensed Cycling Instructor (LCI) within twelve (12) months of hire. Ecology Action will support certification-related training and fees as applicable.
- Ability to instill and nurture enthusiasm in students about biking or walking safely and the benefits of other modes of active transportation .
- Exceptional classroom management skills .
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) .
- Valid California Class C driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and current automobile insurance .
- Ability to work effectively within a team.
- Ability to maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, but not required .
Minimum of three years of teaching experience in any capacity .
Experience coordinating with multiple agencies .
Experience working with grants.
