ABOUT DSGSH

Don’t Shoot Guns, Shoot Hoops (DSGSH) is a nonprofit founded in 2022, dedicated to preventing gun violence by helping inner-city youth heal from trauma through basketball. We build strong personal connections with young individuals to address the root causes of violence and promote life skills essential for their growth. Supported by respected community members, DSGSH fosters open discussions to shift societal norms around firearm use and conflict resolution.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Program Coordinator who’s ready to roll up their sleeves and make a real difference. You’ll play a key role in bringing our programs to life, coordinating activities, engaging with youth, supporting coaches and mentors, and building relationships that strengthen our communities. What You’ll Do
  • Coordinate and oversee daily program operations across multiple sites.
  • Build positive, trust-based relationships with youth participants and families.
  • Partner with schools, recreation centers, and community organizations to expand outreach.
  • Organize workshops, events, and tournaments that promote teamwork and emotional growth.
  • Track attendance, outcomes, and success stories to help measure program impact.
  • Support coaches and mentors to ensure programs run smoothly and safely.
  • Travel to program sites and events (mileage reimbursement provided).
What We’re Looking For
  • 2+ years of experience in youth programs, community engagement, or related nonprofit work.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, you can juggle multiple priorities and keep things moving.
  • A heart for community, you genuinely care about helping young people succeed.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (local travel required).
Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role involves both office and fieldwork. You’ll spend time on your feet, attending events, supporting programs, and engaging with youth. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) and outdoor work may be required. Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals.
