SUMMARY
The Program Buyer is responsible for leading and coordinating all purchasing activities associated with new product launches and assigned customer programs. This position works closely with engineering, program management, manufacturing, quality and suppliers to ensure materials and components are sourced competitively, delivered on time, and meet quality, cost, and performance objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Issue and analyze request for quotes (RFQs) from approved suppliers to support customer requirements
- Negotiate price, level of effort, terms and conditions and payment terms for RFQ's
- Manage procurement of required products utilizing the APQP process
- Coordinate rapid prototype and production part sourcing for various levels of vehicle and retail program
- Develop, maintain, and publish appropriate documentation as required by the applicable purchasing procedures
- Work with suppliers to drive cost reductions
- Develop supplier strategies and implement strategic supplier partnerships in advanced timeframes
- Lead sourcing decisions while managing multiple projects and tasks effectively
- Work closely with other functional areas to establish an effective supply base
- Manage supplier's price changes, invoicing issues, cost reductions, and key supplier meetings/activities
- Capable of working closely with suppliers
- Actively participate in continuous improvement and supplier corrective action activities
- Prepare correspondence for internal and external purposes
- Support other department positions and special projects as needed
- Work with the Quality Dept. to determine requirements for each part including level of PPAP, 1 st article, and/or COC requirements
- Assess future needs and develop action plans for leveraging supplier's strengths within the organization
- Demonstrate teamwork and respect by working constructively with co-workers to achieve the best results possible

LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- No supervisory responsibilities
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business or related field preferred
- 3-5+ years of purchasing, sourcing, or supply chain experience preferably in automotive or manufacturing environments
- Strong negotiation, analytical and project management skills
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of automotive launch processes, APQP, and supplier development processes
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
