This position reports to the Vice President, or other senior manager, of the NTI | bio team. This is a full-time hybrid position, working a minimum of three days per week in our Washington, DC office.

NTI | bio is focused on reducing catastrophic biological risks, and we are working toward this goal by strengthening biotechnology governance; bolstering biosecurity in countries around the world; strengthening international capabilities to uphold the norm against bioweapon development and use; driving progress in global health security; and building the biosecurity field.

The selected candidate will contribute to NTI | bio efforts across our strategic priorities. This may include:

  • Conducting research and contributing to the development of practical, innovative risk-reduction approaches that can be applied throughout the bioscience and biotechnology research and development life-cycle—including at the convergence of AI and the life sciences.
  • Contributing to written reports and pilot projects to advance practical solutions for biosecurity, biotechnology governance, and enhancing transparency regarding compliance with the Biological Weapons Convention. This may include synthesizing research and interviews with leading biosecurity experts to develop practical recommendations.
  • Working with international stakeholders to shape and implement strategies designed to measurably improve biosecurity, as well as building political and financial support for these efforts.
  • Supporting advocacy efforts to advance biosecurity and pandemic preparedness goals in the U.S. and internationally.
  • Assisting with convening international events and helping manage relationships with global stakeholders.
  • Drafting internal leadership briefing documents and memos.
  • Providing support to other NTI | bio projects as needed.

What are the requirements for the position? Preferred candidates will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., biophysics, bioengineering, computer science, biology, synthetic biology, biosecurity, global health security, or a related field) and
  • Two to six years of relevant experience, preferably in biosecurity, biology/life sciences (including in silico research), global health security, international security, or non-proliferation.

What would make you stand out?

  • A demonstrated commitment to reducing catastrophic biological risks and bolstering biosecurity internationally and a strong understanding of key biosecurity concepts and approaches, including the evolution of the field as biotechnology advances.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong analytical thinking skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex policy issues to diverse audiences.
  • A proven track record working with a team to drive effective, evidence-based solutions that advance biosecurity and global health security.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience with conference, meeting, and other event planning and implementation.
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., biophysics, bioengineering, computer science, biology, biosecurity, or a related field).

This position will require regular domestic and international travel.

Hiring pay range:

  • $66,000 – $100,000 annual compensation, depending on prior experience, education, and level hired (Program Associate vs Program Officer).
  • This position is eligible for health insurance benefits, as well as other generous benefits that are part of the NTI compensation package.
