Program Assistant - Youth Development - West Family Y

• Part-time

We have seven locations: North, West, Davenport, Bettendorf, Utica Ridge, Camp Abe Lincoln, Childcare and Maquoketa.

The Program Assistant is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of each participant enrolled in the program, demonstrates leadership, engages in the programs, activities, and field trips, and serves as a positive and wholesome role model to all participants and other staff in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Scott County Family Y.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Serves as role model to members and Y staff, and at all times lives the mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement.
• Facilitates the programs and activities designated by supervisor.
• Ensures the safety of program participants at all times.
• Assists in program area set up, tear down and cleaning.
• Actively engages participants during activities on an ongoing basis.
• Corrects behavior issues when necessary using methods outlined in YMCA best practices and communicates behavioral concerns to supervisor.
• Participates in and solicits others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
• Maintains certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.
• Adheres to all policies and procedures of Scott County Family Y.
• Understands and follows all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
• Complies with regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by the Program Director - Aquatics/Youth Development.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires physical effort such as lifting of at least 50 lbs, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, balancing, and climbing. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and varying fitness equipment. Noise level can vary from quiet to moderate during office hours and moderate to loud during event hours. This position works in a variety of environments which can include but are not limited to office settings, gymnasiums, and outdoors. It may require working evenings, weekends, and additional hours to accommodate program and other activities representing the organization and branch operation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience working with children preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be able to pass background check.
• CPR / AED / First Aid Certification*.
• Mandatory Reporter*.
• Note: If not currently certified, must obtain certification within 30 days of hire. All the above certification training programs are provided by the YMCA staff.

PT employees receive a single Y membership at no cost and are able to participate in the Y Retirement program if they meet the eligibility requirements.

The Program Assistant will work with our After School Adventure program during the following times:

• Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri 1pm-5pm
