Job summary

Winooski School District in Vermont seeks a Program Assistant to work with special educators and students in the JFK Elementary Alternative Classroom (grades 2–5). You will provide therapeutic and academic support, focusing on emotional regulation, social skills, and daily routines, with training in therapeutic crisis intervention.

The role emphasizes collaboration with clinical teams, data keeping, and participating in student meetings; prior experience with children is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent, plus minimum of 48 credit hours at an institution of higher education or Associate’s degree (or higher) or can meet a standard of quality through a formal State or local academic assessment.
• Candidates with experience working with children (school or other settings) and/or coursework relating to the field will be a plus.
• This candidate must be a team player who enjoys working with school-aged students, and has good classroom management skills.
• At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
• Associate degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with special educators, clinical teams, and outside providers.
• Assist the Special Educator with a day-to-day schedule.
• Participate in effective periodic meetings for assigned students.
• Solicit and/or receive regular feedback around interactions with students and around the needs of each student.
• Solid understanding of behavior & crisis plans.
• Support the special educator in maintaining accurate, timely data of students.
• The district is a PreK-12 system housed in one educational center; employee must be able to perform essential functions.
• Additional duties may include recess, lunch and bus support.
