Job description

If you are looking for an opportunity to build your Prognostics Engineering experience and drive the development of new technologies, Emerson has a great opportunity for you.

The Prognostics Engineer will oversee the entire lifecycle of diagnostic and prognostic health monitoring technology for equipment used in the process control industry. Emphasis will be on implementation and support of physics and data driven predictive models and extension of algorithms to new applications and use cases. The ideal candidate must have a customer-first mindset, a good understanding of data analysis and algorithm development, hands‑on laboratory investigation and written and verbal communication of results.

Key function includes working closely with the marketing, advanced technology, and software program teams to manage the multi‑location engineering collaboration of prognostics development activities. Identify creative and unique methodologies to accelerate hardware, sensor, and analytics development and testing that meet and exceed customer requirements.

AS A PROGNOSTICS ENGINEER YOU WILL:
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy prognostic and advanced diagnostic algorithms for industrial control valves and associated equipment
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of Engineers, Data Scientists, SMEs and Collaborators to create and integrate prognostics solutions into systems
  • Analyze and interpret data from sensors, diagnostics, and maintenance records to identify failure modes, trends, and anomalies
  • Create algorithms to detect fault conditions and figure out remaining useful life (RUL) of the system based on sensor data, failure modes, and degradation models
  • Determine the optimal type, number, and location of sensors for the system based on the prognostic objectives, performance criteria, and constraints
  • Create clear, concise, and verifiable engineering requirement documents and engineering plans to achieve project goals

WHO YOU ARE: You design processes and procedures that allow managing from a distance. You evaluate pros and cons, risks and benefits of different solution options. You provide timely and effective information to individuals across the organization. You push yourself and help others achieve results. You establish clear responsibilities and processes for monitoring work and measuring results.

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics or in any applicable field.
  • 5+ years relevant industry experience or a equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with developing and applying prognostic algorithms and models for complex systems and components. Familiarity with various prognostics and diagnostics approaches, such as physics-based, data-driven, and hybrid.
  • Experience at collaborating with diverse global work groups
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills for investigating complex technical problems
  • Ability to create and validate dynamic models of physical systems using tools such as MATLAB and Simulink
  • Experience with engineering and signal processing development tools
  • Knowledge of machining learning, data science, and statistical methods
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, sensors, and diagnostics
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:
  • Preference will be given to those who have earned advanced degrees.
  • Hands‑on laboratory classwork related to measurement and instrumentation and experience with sensors and general metrology, modelling of physical systems and algorithm development are considered a plus
  • Control valve business knowledge and experience desired
  • Experience with predictive model development is desired
