Professorship in World Christianity (Open Search)

Harvard Divinity School seeks to appoint a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty member in World Christianity. The Professorship will be awarded to an outstanding scholar whose research and teaching focus primarily on Christianity's growth, transformation, and significance as viewed globally and through the lens of specific regions. We welcome applications from candidates who combine a strong training in the study of Christianity with linguistic and historical competence in one or more geographical settings—including, but not limited to, Africa, Asia, Oceania, Latin America, and the Caribbean—from the nineteenth century to the present. Methodological approach is open. Successful candidates should be prepared to teach courses that reflect the diversity of Christianity in the world today.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants should be competent in the appropriate research languages and be able to teach and advise at the doctoral and master's levels.

The successful candidate will work closely with students in the Divinity School's Master of Divinity, Master of Theological Studies, and Master of Religion in Public Life programs, as well as PhD candidates in the Study of Religion in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. They will also have an opportunity to teach undergraduates in Harvard College and to collaborate with colleagues and students in other departments and schools in the University.

Excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research is expected. The doctoral degree must be held by June 30, 2027.
