Description

Professor of the Practice, Emergency and Security Management Programs

Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies seeks a full-time Professor of the Practice in Emergency and Security Management to provide academic leadership for the Master of Professional Studies in Emergency and Disaster Management (EDM) program while contributing to the growth of an expanding portfolio of degree programs in the emergency management, applied intelligence, security, and public safety disciplines.

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure line faculty position. Approximately 40-50% of the faculty member's effort will be devoted to administrative leadership responsibilities, including faculty governance, curriculum design, and instructional oversight for both on-ground and online modalities. The remaining effort will be dedicated to teaching 3 to 5 graduate courses per year and contributing actively to the intellectual life of the university.

We are seeking faculty with exceptional leadership experience who value innovation, collaboration and collegiality, and who can lead and support teams of colleagues in academic and faculty affairs, learning design, technology and operations, and marketing and enrollment management, to drive the quality, rigor, and growth of our emergency and security management programs. The ideal candidate must be passionate about teaching graduate and professional students and contributing to the intellectual life of the university.

Principal responsibilities for this position include:
  • Teaching 3 to 5 graduate courses (9 - 15 credits) per academic year;
  • Leading program planning and execution efforts to ensure the quality of the academic experience and to foster program growth;
  • Overseeing curriculum management processes and initiatives, including curriculum design and development, curriculum mapping and alignment, and curriculum innovation and change;
  • Coordinating teaching and learning design initiatives including course design and maintenance, assessment of program learning outcomes, technology-enhanced learning, and equitable and inclusive teaching and learning;
  • Implementing quality assurance processes and practices, including internal and external academic program reviews, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements;
  • Managing faculty talent programs and processes, including recruitment, onboarding, contracting, evaluation, and recognition, to ensure the program has a high-performing, professionally engaged faculty cohort;
  • Resolving faculty-related conflicts, grievances, and complaints in accordance with relevant university policies and procedures;
  • Collaborating with colleagues in marketing, admissions, and enrollment management to execute strategies that support and enhance student recruitment, retention, and success;
  • Building partnerships with industry and alumni to support student career advancement, drive curricular innovation, and elevate the program's reputation.

This position requires a dedication to student-centered pedagogy and the capacity to effectively support and engage a diverse community of professional learners.

The appointment will begin no later than August 1, 2027. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor of the practice, depending on teaching and professional experience. The initial appointment is typically for two or three years and is renewable indefinitely based on ongoing curricular and programmatic needs and positive performance evaluation.

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
