Job description

The Opportunity

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a Professor of Practice position focusing on Power Electronics and Electrical Power Systems. This is a non-tenure, full-time, 9-month faculty role with potential summer support.

We seek a professional with extensive expertise in designing, developing, and deploying power electronics and power systems for space applications. The ideal candidate will bring industry or government experience to enhance our educational and research missions through teaching, mentorship, strategic guidance on test capabilities, and collaboration with space sector partners.

This role is part of ECE’s focus on space electronics and power management technologies in extreme environments. Responsibilities include curriculum development, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring, developing collaborations, and increasing UCF’s presence in the space sector.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of professional experience in the design, development, integration, testing, and operation of power electronics and systems, including applications in extreme environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least 15 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Expertise in DC-DC converters, high-reliability power systems, radiation-hardened electronics, or space system power integration.
  • Proven technical leadership and significant contributions to industry, government, or academia.
  • Experience collaborating with space agencies (e.g., NASA, ESA) and aerospace industry partners.
  • Experience in university-level teaching, mentoring, or curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of conventional and innovative design, manufacturing, and testing of space electrical and power systems.
  • Familiarity with space electronics standards and reliability engineering.
