Job Description
Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is the third largest of Virginia’s 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. It serves students and the community at its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian; online; and in locations throughout its service area. Brightpoint Community College’s mission is to provide quality educational opportunities that inspire student success and community vitality. It envisions a success story for every student.
The Academic Resource Center ( ARC ) invites applicants to apply for part-time employment as a professional tutor. The ARC provides academic support to all students enrolled at Brightpoint Community College. The ARC’s primary goal is to create an open atmosphere of learning for all students. We assist students in numerous academic disciplines both in-person and via Zoom, through a variety of tutoring techniques by addressing student’s individual needs. This position has a maximum of 29 hours per week, mostly in-person Monday through Thursday 10am-6pm, number of hours may vary. The professional tutors will work on the Chester and/or the Midlothian campuses (based on the needs of the center) to assist student tutors and students in a wide variety of subjects. Currently, we are actively recruiting for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) tutors and Writing Tutors.
Professional Tutors will:
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Prior tutoring experience required. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Must be able to work days at either of the Brightpoint campuses. Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as needed. Successful completion and passing of criminal background check is required.
Additional Considerations
Experience with software such as Trac Cloud, Zoom, Navigate, Canva, and learning management systems such as Canvas. Experience with Microsoft Office. Experience working in an academic resource center or equivalent.
