The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. They are responsible for setting standards for quality care, managing patient activities, and collaborating with healthcare team members. The role encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision, establishing and maintaining relationships with physicians, patients, and families to achieve optimal outcomes. The nurse demonstrates commitment to the community and the nursing profession.

Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and maintain productive relationships with colleagues and patients, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and cultural sensitivity. Maintain work-life balance, model safety and time management, and report safety hazards.
  2. Apply adult learning principles to educate patients, families, students, and staff, providing detailed teaching and supporting development through preceptorship and open dialogue.
  3. Use the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to create healing environments, formulate patient goals, and deliver holistic, patient-centered care. Communicate effectively, document comprehensively, and incorporate professional and organizational goals to enhance safety, quality, and satisfaction.
  4. Engage in professional development by participating in shared governance, quality improvement, and adapting to change. Support team needs and contribute to improving patient care and practice environment.
  5. Participate in quality improvement efforts, identify opportunities, and utilize evidence-based practices to enhance clinical care, patient satisfaction, and safety.
