UPMC Health Plan is hiring Casual Professional Staff Nurses, OP
These roles will work varied schedules depending on clinic contracted hours. Currently, all clinics that these positions would be covering are located around Allegheny County, with the potential to expand outside of Allegheny County in the future.
The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse who is a member of the care delivery team. The nurse is responsible for setting standards for the level and quality of care, with responsibility, authority, and accountability for nursing care provision. The Professional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with team members. They establish and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The nurse demonstrates a commitment to the community and the nursing profession.
Responsibilities:
- Participate actively in department or practice-specific quality improvement efforts. Identify opportunities for quality improvement, and take personal responsibility for enhancing patient satisfaction with care and service. Utilize research and evidence-based practices to support clinical improvements, including identifying relevant research issues or articles related to clinical specialties or areas of interest.
- Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Work effectively within a complex environment, handling multiple and changing priorities and specialized equipment. Demonstrate good clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills related to patient care. Exercise leadership in applying the nursing process. Maintain physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
- Apply knowledge of adult learning principles to teach patients, families, students, and new staff. Provide detailed and appropriate education to guide patients and families through episodes of care both in-office and remotely. Support the development of colleagues and create an environment of open dialogue and continuous improvement by seeking feedback and refining practices.
- Formulate patient-centered goals and care plans that consider individual needs holistically. Triage patient situations, coordinate care with physicians, and assist with all aspects of patient assessment, evaluation, and education. Demonstrate critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues. Communicate effectively with care providers and document comprehensively to promote team communication. Incorporate organizational and health system goals to enhance patient safety, quality, and satisfaction. Foster a caring, compassionate, and patient-focused environment by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Take accountability for professional development to improve practice quality and patient care. Participate in shared governance, goal setting, and support change initiatives. Be an engaged team member, responding willingly to team needs, and contributing to quality improvement efforts. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to change.
