The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. They are responsible for setting standards for care quality, managing patient care activities, and collaborating with team members. The role encompasses leadership, partnership, and supervision, establishing collaborative relationships with physicians, healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve optimal outcomes. The nurse demonstrates commitment to the community and nursing profession.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain productive relationships, demonstrate accountability, enthusiasm, and motivation. Understand cultural differences and promote healthy relationships. Maintain work-life balance, model safe work hours, and communicate safety hazards.
  • Apply adult learning principles to teach patients, families, students, and staff. Provide detailed education to support care transitions. Support development of staff and students, serve as preceptor, and foster an environment of open dialogue and continuous improvement.
  • Use the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulate daily goals, develop holistic care plans, and demonstrate critical thinking. Communicate effectively, document comprehensively, and incorporate organizational goals to improve safety, quality, and satisfaction. Build caring relationships with patients and families.
