Summary Description

This position is responsible for providing academic, social, physical, and skills development for students in specific grades/subject areas, preparing them to be successful citizens and workers in the 21st century.

  • Implements a comprehensive guidance and counseling program based on state and District standards; collaborates with staff and community resources in planning and assessment.
  • Counsels students individually and in groups to develop strategies for academic and personal goals.
  • Facilitates crisis intervention to ensure safety.
  • Provides peer mediation and works to discover and develop students' abilities.
  • Resolves educational handicaps and administers assessments.
  • Provides referrals to services and maintains confidential student files.
  • Participates in meetings, conducts conferences with parents, and assists in student registration and scheduling.
  • Analyzes data on attendance and performance to determine counseling needs.
  • Performs administrative tasks and attends training to enhance skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in school counseling, one year of related experience, and state certification in Guidance and Counseling. Total education/experience should be seven years, considering degree equivalency formulas.
