Work Schedule
Friday to Monday, 9:00pm-7:00am. Shift times and dates may be adjusted for training or department needs. This position is eligible for a $1.00/hour pay differential for hours worked between 9:00pm and 4:59am.
General Description
The Professional Safety Officer is responsible for campus safety and security, providing a visible presence, engaging positively with community members, and performing various daily tasks. Reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Safety.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Engage with community members in a culturally responsive manner to develop ongoing relationships.
- Monitor campus activity proactively by patrolling on foot or in a vehicle.
- Lock/unlock buildings and perimeter gates; check fire panels.
- Assist individuals with resources or addressing issues.
- Respond to emergencies, follow proper procedures, and notify authorities.
- Administer first aid and operate AEDs.
- Assist fire and law enforcement as needed.
- Provide vehicle jump starts, escorts, and shuttle services.
- Use verbal de-escalation and defensive tactics.
- Perform dispatcher duties: answer phones, enter data, assist visitors.
- Write incident reports.
- Operate university vehicles per laws and policies.
- Attend professional training (e.g., Security Officer Academy, ICS certifications).
- Train new staff on policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
