What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Assign appropriate ICD and CPT codes for reimbursement and statistical documentation
- Abstract clinical information from medical records for accurate coding
- Collaborate with physicians and coding staff to ensure accurate code assignment
- Stay current with trends in healthcare coding and compliance
- Assist with coding claim edits and review claim denials for corrections
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of professional coding experience across multiple clinical and/or surgical specialties
- Active AAPC or AHIMA coding credential required
- Experience with CPT and ICD diagnosis coding, CCI edits, and Medicare LCDs and NCDs
- Proficient in Microsoft applications and electronic health records software
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with E/M Documentation Guidelines (1995/1997/2021)
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations and payor billing requirements
