Job description

Job Title: Professional Geologist/Hydrogeologist, Project Manager

Market Group: Water Resources

Location: Fort Myers (on-site)

Job Summary: Johnson Engineering, LLC is seeking a Florida-licensed professional geologist/hydrogeologist with demonstrated professional experience in Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and contamination remediation to join our Water Resources Group in Fort Myers, FL.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 or more years of prior consulting experience related to soil and groundwater investigation/remediation, groundwater well construction oversight, and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) sampling procedures and regulations.

This position will not be limited to environmental due diligence and will require support on well construction/abandonment, water use permitting, Class I underground injection control permitting and compliance projects. This position will primarily consist of office work, but may require occasional field work, if necessary. Fieldwork is anticipated to occur locally near Fort Myers.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in hydrogeology, geology, environmental sciences, or earth science-related field.

• Strong technical writing skills. This position will routinely require compiling technical documents/forms; therefore, proficiency in technical writing is required.

• Ability to analyze and present data and formulate conclusions in concise and technical form (investigation/construction procedures and methods, and discussion and qualification of data).

• Experience developing graphs, data summary tables, and site plans using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or AutoCAD.

• Knowledge of regulatory requirements/guidelines and ability to review and interpret Federal, State, Municipal, and/or Water Management District rules and regulations.

• Ability to perform geological/hydrological research utilizing publicly available information and databases.

• Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with co-workers and project managers.

• Ability to effectively manage projects including staff, budget, and deadlines for multiple projects.

• Ability to work independently.

• Ability to maintain organized, detailed and accurate field notes and project documents.

• Experience with MS Suite including Word, Excel and Outlook.

• A valid Florida driver’s license and an excellent driving record.

• Required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

• If not currently licensed in the state of Florida, must have the ability to obtain a Florida Professional Geologist License within 6 months of hire date.

Essential Duties:

• Project and client management.

• Technical review of reports completed by others.

• Technical writing and report preparation – independently complete environmental due diligence reports (Phase I and II ESAs), documenting/reporting field observations, water resource assessments, hydrogeological studies, and regulating authority application forms and supporting documents/figures (graphs, data tables, references, etc.).

• Interpretation and validation of data including, but not limited to groundwater elevation measurements, water quality, aquifer performance test and pumping test data, soil and groundwater analytical results, and reference data (USGS, FDEP, Water Management District, etc.).

• Contractor, regulatory agency, and internal project correspondence via phone calls and emails.

• Occasional fieldwork in a variety of inclement weather conditions including rain, heat, humidity, etc. Work sites may include construction zones, swamps, lakes, and other hazardous work areas.
