This position is located at the Division Office of the Nevada Division of State Parks in Carson City. The incumbent provides professional engineering services to support State Park capital improvement projects and Division operations. The position applies engineering principles to develop biddable plan sets, analyze complex technical data, and solve challenging engineering problems that affect daily operations. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that work is complete, accurate, and compliant with applicable regulations, policies, and industry best practices.
The role involves planning, organizing, and managing project activities while coordinating with internal and external partners to keep projects on schedule and within budget. Responsibilities also include preparing, reviewing, and ensuring the accuracy and compliance of technical documents, reports, agreements, and correspondence. The incumbent may present complex engineering information to management, participate in public meetings as a technical expert, and negotiate and manage consultant and contractor agreements.
The incumbent oversees projects throughout the entire development process, from schematic design and permitting through preparation of bid documents. The position also provides construction management from project advertisement through closeout. This includes participating in engineering design and CAD drafting, preparing bid documents, specifications, cost estimates, and permit applications, and developing Requests for Proposals for consultant services. The incumbent oversees consultant selection and contract management and administers construction activities, including bid solicitation, addenda processing, bid openings, contract development, billing review, change orders, submittals, and field inspections to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Additional responsibilities include reviewing and approving the work of others, assisting with grant applications, and providing technical support and guidance to field staff.
Licensed professional engineers engage in the practice of professional engineering which includes, but is not limited to, professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or responsibility for supervision of construction or operations in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment, and projects wherein the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property is concerned. Duties and responsibilities require independent control and direction, and the use of initiative, skill and judgment applied to the research or design of professional engineering work. All positions in this series require licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
