Role Description

The Professional Engineer – Mechanical Design will provide mechanical design and engineering services for MEP/FP projects, with a focus on building systems and technical solutions that meet client and code requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing mechanical load calculations, developing system concepts, creating detailed design documents, and preparing CAD-based drawings and specifications. The role involves coordinating with internal disciplines and external stakeholders, reviewing submittals, and supporting project management activities such as schedules and documentation. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Rockford, IL, with the ability to work from home for part of the week while attending in-office meetings and site visits as needed.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering with experience applying engineering principles to building systems and consulting projects.
• Proficiency in Design Engineering and Machine Design for mechanical components and systems used in MEP/FP applications.
• Experience in Product Design and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for developing drawings, models, and documentation in industry-standard software.
• Relevant professional engineering licensure (PE in Mechanical or ability to obtain), and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Knowledge of building codes, standards, and industry best practices (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA) and familiarity with MEP/FP coordination.
• Effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a consulting environment.
• Experience with HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design, and prior work on educational, hospitality, multifamily, or similar projects is beneficial.
