Professional Development and Urban Advantage Coordinator

This role involves coordinating the design, development, and implementation of the Urban Advantage science initiative in partnership with Staten Island Zoo. The coordinator should have experience in informal or formal education, with excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Develop and deliver professional development courses for NYC science educators, including in-person and virtual formats.
2. Maintain online course materials and evaluations.
3. Coordinate events such as teacher orientations, science expos, and family science days.
4. Align programs with education standards like NGSS and NYSSLS.
5. Participate in meetings and working groups to improve program processes.
6. Oversee and collaborate with Lead Teachers and volunteers.
7. Conduct school visits and support events, including evenings and weekends.
8. Manage program budgets, materials, and community partnerships.
9. Deliver educational programs to various groups and support special events like Spooktacular.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in education, biology, environmental education, or related field; graduate work is a plus.
• Experience in teaching or informal education, especially with adults.
• Knowledge of NGSS and NYS science standards.
• Experience with animal handling preferred but trainable.

Skills:

• Strong multitasking, communication, and public speaking skills.
• Proficiency with Google Suite and data management.
• Ability to work with diverse groups and adapt to a semi-structured environment.

Additional Requirements:

• Background check, ability to work outdoors, lift up to 30 pounds, negative TB test.

Details:

• Full-time, 35 hours/week, including one weekend day.
• Salary: $52,000 - $58,000, with benefits and optional remote work one day a week.
