Role Description

This full-time, contract, on-site Professional Counselor or Social Worker role is based at a correctional facility in Angola, LA. The professional in this role provides individual and group counseling to incarcerated individuals, conducts psychosocial assessments, and develops treatment and care plans tailored to client needs. Daily tasks include facilitating group sessions, maintaining accurate clinical documentation, collaborating with multidisciplinary staff. The role also involves substance use education, referrals to appropriate internal and external resources, and ongoing monitoring of client progress. This position supports rehabilitation, emotional well-being, and adjustment to the correctional environment within established ethical and legal standards.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field. (Fully licensed or preparing for licensure)
• Demonstrated experience in mental health assessment, treatment planning, and delivery of individual and group counseling in clinical or correctional settings.
• Strong skills in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and working with individuals who may have trauma histories, substance use disorders, or co-occurring conditions.
• Ability to maintain detailed, compliant clinical records and use electronic or paper-based documentation systems accurately and efficiently.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and boundary-setting skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with security staff, healthcare providers, and administrative personnel.
• Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines governing counseling and social work practice, including confidentiality and informed consent.
• Ability to work on-site in a secure correctional environment, adhere to safety protocols, and remain calm and professional under pressure.
• Preferred: Experience in correctional mental health, forensic social work, or community mental health; familiarity with evidence-based practices for justice-involved populations.

Current licensure as a professional counselor or social worker in the state of Louisiana (e.g., LPC, LCSW) and eligibility to practice independently.
