Job Summary

The Professional Counselor II, under general supervision, provides multiculturally competent mental health counseling and outreach to individuals, couples, and groups. May provide adjunct supervision for graduate students in counseling, counseling psychology, and graduate assistants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides mental health counseling as well as crisisintervention to individuals, couples, and groups.
  • Meets ethical obligations for timely documentation ofcounseling services per State of Texas licensure requirements and Counseling & Psychological Services policies.
  • Engages in counseling related activities including administering and interpreting psychological tests/inventories, making referrals, and managing various organizational and administrative aspects of counseling cases.
  • Provides consultation to faculty, staff, students, andparents.
  • Seeks consultation from peers and leadership for difficultclinical cases per State of Texas licensure requirements.
  • Per state licensure requirements, participates in continuingeducation and professional development activities related to theperformance of job functions and maintenance of skills in one'sprofessional specialty area.
  • Serves on departmental committees and meetings, division anduniversity committees, and other university functions.
  • Provides outreach presentations for students, faculty, andstaff members about counseling services, programs, professionaldevelopment topics, issues, etc.
  • Provides professional presentations at local, regional, andnational conferences and workshops.
  • May provide adjunct supervision for masters and doctoral degreegraduate students in counseling, counseling psychology, andgraduate assistants.
  • May provide weekly supervision/training including review ofrecorded sessions and case review for provisionally licensedinterns and/or practica students.
  • Assists with organizational and administrative tasks, asrequested.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Serve as liaison with other offices.
  • Serve on committees.
  • Schedule, prepare, provide, and report on conjoint andindependent mental health and wellness related outreach on campus,as needed and as approved (i.e. student messaging; design/deliverystrategies on posters and bulletins; workshops; information tables;class presentations; speaking assignments; etc.)
Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Master's degree in Counseling and Guidance, SocialWork, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or other specialty relatedto job function.
  • Experience - One year post Master's experience in collegecounseling center or other relevant setting.
Preferred Education and Experience

Licensure for independent practice in the State of Texas. (LPC, LCDC).

  • Counseling and outreach experience in a universitysetting.
  • Experience doing veterans counseling and/or drug/alcoholcounseling.
Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.

Ability to:

  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Communicate and effectively, orally and in writing.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Must possess time-management, planning, and organizationskills.

Ability to:

  • Interact effectively and professionally with the Universitycommunity, general public, and the students served.
  • Work independently and follow-through on all tasks.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Familiarity with campus-related issues (i.e., adults, women,men, Hispanic populations, adjustment, etc.).
License/Professional Certification
  • Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriageand Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker(LCSW).

Salary

$53,352.00/annual
