Job summary

New Haven Community Schools is seeking a dedicated Bus Driver to join our transportation team. This full-time role requires safe operation of a bus, punctuality, and excellent customer service while adhering to traffic laws and district policies.

The successful candidate will hold a CDL with a passenger endorsement, have at least 2 years of bus driving experience, and pass a background check and drug screen. Training is provided, and shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• CDL with passenger endorsement.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of driving experience, preferably with a large vehicle or bus.
• Strong knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Must pass a background check and drug screening.
• Physical ability to assist passengers and perform inspections.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a bus along designated routes, ensuring timely arrivals and departures.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle for safety and compliance.
• Assist passengers in boarding and disembarking, including individuals with disabilities.
• Maintain a clean bus interior and a comfortable environment for passengers.
• Monitor and manage passenger behavior to maintain a safe atmosphere.
• Communicate with dispatch regarding route changes, delays or emergencies.
• Record trips, passenger counts and incidents accurately.
• Provide excellent customer service and address passenger questions.
