FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS' AFFAIRS is seeking a PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTANT to work in the Fiscal Office. The selected candidate will be responsible for professional accounting work involving the independent application of accounting and auditing concepts, principles, theory, and technical skills in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four years of professional accounting experience.
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
  • Experience with the Florida Accounting Information Resource system.
  • Successful completion of the due diligence process, including a Level II background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Two years of accounting, payroll, or professional experience in a governmental organization.
  • Working knowledge of payroll experience with the State of Florida government or county/city.
  • Conducts research to resolve payroll problems and related transactions and complete correction journal entries.
  • Proficiency working with web-based accounting software.
  • Proficiency conducting work-related internet research.
  • Experience with My Florida Market Place (also referred to as Ariba).
  • Intermediate level proficiency performing fiscal/financial/accounting studies, analyzing data, and making recommendations on course of action-based findings.
  • Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper and timely completion of work assignments, including multiple and complex projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This position involves performing accounting and payroll functions in FLAIR, People First, Florida PALM, and MY Florida Market Place (MFMP), along with reconciliation of payroll download and Florida PALM processes. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing and maintaining accounting records, analyzing and interpreting accounting data, and communicating effectively with internal and external customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and enter journal entries, such as shift differential, incentive pay, and other payroll adjustments as needed.
  • Provide payroll support to staff, auditors, requestors, and other internal/external customers.
  • Responsible for quarterly payroll balancing to BOSP and tracking all direct care hours for cost reporting and tying back to FLAIR.
  • Proficient in performing fiscal/financial/accounting studies, analyzing data, and making recommendations on course of action-based findings.
  • Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper and timely completion of work assignments, including multiple and complex projects.
  • Participates in readiness workplan, meetings, and workshops, business processes, and modules, chart of accounts, and reporting relating to Florida PALM.
