Job summary

DFA Milk in Grand Rapids, MI, is seeking a production operator for 2nd and 3rd shifts. You will perform line duties, operate equipment, monitor quality, and ensure correct materials are used. You will complete required documentation and assist with sanitation and setup for each run.

The role requires a high school diploma and 2–4 years of manufacturing experience, with the ability to read and write in English. Benefits offered after 60 days and a starting pay of $23.46/hour.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of line duties to operate and support production equipment.

  • Ensure proper materials are used for each product and complete quality checks.
  • Review charts and documentation; document information per SOPs.
  • Maintain sanitation and prepare equipment for next runs; monitor equipment performance.

Job description

Demonstrate proficiency in a range of processes, procedures, and equipment to perform various operator roles in the plant production environment. Serve as a resource to others to solve problems and/or assist with operator activities or production equipment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of line duties within the manufacturing environment to machine operator, and/or break relief operator jobs (e.g., Receiver, Blend/Filler/CIP/Retort/ Evaporator/Pasteurizer operators). This may include troubleshooting and performing minor maintenance repairs
  • Clean, set-up, operate, and monitor equipment on the production line
  • Ensure that the proper materials are used for each product being produced
  • Complete all required documentation and scheduled quality checks
  • Review charts, screens, quality check sheets, and specifications that are in both hard copy and electronic format
  • Perform cleaning and sanitation tasks as required to maintain plant equipment; complete cleaning checklist once line has completed run
  • Prepare equipment for next run to include size changes as needed
  • Maintain communication with other departments, supervisor, and employees and notify them of any problems and/or concerns that may restrict the efficiency of production
  • Ensure all paperwork is filled out in a clear, legible, and accurate format and completed with required information. Ensure all required information is documented in accordance with SOP’s
  • Review process data and equipment performance data to improve quality, throughput, and troubleshoot
  • Assist with training efforts in functional area as needed
  • Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements
  • Maintain safe working conditions for employees and compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding health and safety issues

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 to 4 years of manufacturing/production experience, preferably in the dairy or consumer goods industry
  • Certification and/or License – may be required during course of employment

  • Proficiency with company computer systems
  • Able to operate production equipment, components, and peripheral accessories
