Job summary

FM is a leading mutual insurance company expanding FM Essential for the manufacturing sector. We seek a Production Underwriter (PUW I to Senior PUW II) to grow new business and renewal profitability within a resilience-focused product line.

Based in Walnut Creek, CA, you will help identify risks, negotiate terms, and build relationships with brokers and reinsurers, traveling as needed to meet growth targets and support market expansion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• 3-5 years underwriting experience.
• Solid knowledge of risk identification and assessment, property insurance coverage, forms, financial statements and business computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for new business production and renewal retention while maintaining underwriting profit and protecting companies’ assets.
• Develop and market the Essential product to a network of producers with whom long-term relationships are developed, maintained and cultivated.
• Negotiate pricing, terms and conditions; use creative underwriting strategies to optimize net retentions balancing customer and company needs.
• Coordinate account team resources to provide excellent and responsive services for brokers and customers.
• Work with Account Engineers to review renewal and new business opportunities ensuring proper risk identification and assessment.
• Maintain relationships with Brokers and reinsurers; Essential product available from mutual funnel as needed.
• Meet profit, production, and retention goals in consultation with Essential manager.
• Establish multiple business contacts and conduct ~10 face-to-face visits per month for visibility.
• Travel for marketing, training, and out-of-state opportunities; pre-qualify new risks based on acceptability and future potential.
