Job summary

SHL Medical US MFG LLC in North Charleston, SC is seeking a Production Technician for Spring Forming to support startup and ongoing operations at a state-of-the-art facility.

You will operate the Wafios spring forming line, address downtime, and collaborate with maintenance and quality teams to ensure safety, quality, and optimum line efficiency. This role offers growth within a dynamic, international medical device manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of operating experience in Spring manufacturing.
• Experience operating complex automated manufacturing equipment.
• Technical knowledge of Servos, Cams, Conveyance Systems, Motors, Gears, Pumps.
• Conceptual knowledge of vision systems, sensors, drives.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic mechanical concepts & troubleshooting.
• Spring machining strongly preferred.
• High speed assembly experience (sub 1 second cycle times) preferred.
• Strong Desire to learn and grow your career in the Medical Device Manufacturing Industry.
• Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of a successful team.
• Ability to learn and use SAP, MES daily.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the Wafios spring forming line with a safety-first mindset.
• Address downtime and waste, communicating line performance issues.
• Help ensure maximum OEE each shift.
• Perform PMs on a daily to annual basis to keep line reliable.
• Suggest Safety, Quality, and Production improvements.
• Support other lines or departments as needed.
• Ensure procedures and records compliance.
• Conduct in-process tests and inspections per standard procedures.
• Analyze and solve production issues to minimize impact.
• Grow technical knowledge of equipment and assist with installation/validation of new equipment.
• Participate as project member/leader on improvement programs.

Job Overview

Spring Forming Production Technician (SFPT) will be a key team member in supporting the startup and continued success of the Device Assembly Operations at a newly constructed state-of-the-art facility located in North Charleston SC. The SFPT will be the resident mechanical experts who have full responsibility, on their assigned shift, for the Wafios spring forming machine for which they are responsible. In addition to being the first line of defense in addressing downtime and waste issues, the SFPTs will also be the primary point of contact for Wafios performance. This position offers an exciting opportunity for growth and development, including the chance to undergo training at the Wafios facility in Chicago. There will also be opportunities to train in Taiwan should the need arises.

Main Responsibilities

• Demonstrate a Safety-First mindset and follow all Safety Policies and Procedures
• Operate in accordance with all pre-established Quality Policies and Procedures
• Analyze machine performance using data as well as mechanical knowledge to pro-actively address machine is sues
• Communicate all line performance issues to the Lead Technician) and elevate to next level support when needed
• Appropriately help to ensure the maximum OEE is achieved each shift
• Perform daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual, and annual PMs as required to ensure that your line of responsibility remains reliable and in optimal condition
• Pro-actively make suggestions for Safety, Quality, and Production improvements
• Assist other production lines or departments in the plant, as needed
• Ensure operations and practices comply with established procedures and records
• Ensure in-process tests and inspections are performed in accordance with standard procedures
• Analyze and solve complex operational issues to minimize impact to overall performance of the operation
• Constantly improve technical knowledge of the assembly equipment for which you are responsible
• Support installation, and validation of new manufacturing equipment as needed
• Serve as project member or project leader on improvement programs as needed
• Willing to voluntarily take on additional tasks and responsibilities, as needed, to ensure the continued success of our operation as well as the company at large.
• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a compliant and ethical manner and in accordance with all applicable healthcare laws, regulations, and industry codes

Skills and Qualification

• 1-3 years of operating experience in Spring manufacturing
• 1-3 years of operating complex automated manufacturing equipment
• Technical knowledge of Servos, Cams, Conveyance Systems, Motors, Gears, Pumps, etc.
• Conceptual knowledge of vision systems, sensors, drives, etc…
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic mechanical concepts & ability to troubleshoot and correct routine mechanical issues
• Spring machining strongly preferred
• High speed assembly experience (sub 1 second cycle times) preferred
• Strong Desire to learn and grow your career in the Medical Device Manufacturing Industry
• Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of a successful team
• Ability to learn and use various computer systems daily (SAP, MES, etc…).
• Prior experience in highly regulated industry
• Ability to accurately document variable production and machine data into an Electronic Device History Record, as required and monitored by the FDA.
• Ability to challenge status quo and willingness to never stop improving
