AstraZeneca Frederick Manufacturing Center is hiring a Production Technician I–III for a 12-hour rotating night shift (6 PM–6:30 AM) to operate bioprocessing equipment per SOPs within a 24/7 facility. The role supports upstream/downstream processing, MES usage, cGMP documentation, and continuous improvement, with on-floor training and cross‑functional teamwork.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED with 1 year pharma/biopharma experience for Tech I.
• High School Diploma/GED with 2 years pharma/biopharma experience for Tech II.
• High School Diploma/GED with 3 years pharma/biopharma experience for Tech III.

Responsibilities

• Operate processing equipment per SOPs, MPRs, SPRs under cGMP.
• Serve as on-floor trainer and coach teammates.
• Diagnose issues and support first-line troubleshooting.
• Follow cGMP documentation and maintain Production Technician qualifications.
• Use MES and complete work orders in the system.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and cross-functional collaboration.

You will be operating upstream / downstream / central services processing equipment according to established SOPs. This role is 12 hour rotating night shift, 6PM to 6:30 AM

Job Responsibilities (this list is not exhaustive):

• Operation of processing equipment according to established SOPs, MPRs, & SPRs in accordance with cGMPs. Related operations include but are not limited to solution preparation, cell culture, purification & formulation, and supporting activities.
• Qualified on the floor trainer.
• Demonstrates sophisticated equipment/process knowledge to diagnose issues and participate in first-line troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Follow and implement cGMP documentation.
• Maintain qualifications in Production Technician duties
• Use Manufacturing Execution systems (MES).
• Complete work orders within system.
• Support SOP updates.
• Contributes proactively to problem solving activities for non-routine activities on production floor.
• Perform duties with basic direction.
• Lead indirect processing activities in support of MFG operations.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives.
• Align with AstraZeneca values and behaviors.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Tech I: High School Diploma/GED +1 year experience in a pharmaceutical/ biopharma environment
• Tech II: High School Diploma/GED +2 years' experience in a pharmaceutical/ biopharma environment
• Tech III: High School Diploma/GED +3 years' experience in a pharmaceutical/ biopharma environment

Desirable Qualifications:

• BS/BA degree
• Degree in STEM field
• Ability to work independently or in collaboration with others on assigned tasks
• Computer skills
• Prior experience with aseptic/cGMP standards
• Extensive prior experience in Bioprocessing work environment/ systems/ equipment operation

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $59,744 - $89,616 annually. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles) or to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
