Job summary

The New World Symphony (NWS) in Miami Beach is seeking a Production Staff member focused on audio for rehearsals, events and tours. You will assist in high-quality production logistics, load-in, setup, and operation of audio systems at the NWC.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s in show production and 1–3 years of experience in performing arts venues, with strong knowledge of Digico consoles and Meyer Sound systems, plus teamwork and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in show production or related field; 1–3 years in event production
  • Advanced knowledge of audio equipment: Digico Quantum5/SD9 and Meyer speakers
  • Knowledge of lighting, video, projection, and stage rigging
  • Familiarity with musical performance conventions; basic music score reading preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; Office 365 experience preferred
  • Ability to interpret diagrams and production documents
  • Strong teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and time-sensitive decision making
  • Professional interaction with colleagues, Fellows, artists, rental clients, vendors and others

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

As a member of the New World Symphony (NWS) production staff, assist in high-quality execution of production logistics (specializing in audio) for events, performances, and other activities at the New World Center (NWC) for both NWS and its external partners and rental clients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

50%: Performance and Event Logistics

  • As directed by the Production Manager, work closely with other production staff in timely execution of production logistics and operations including load-in, setup, operation, changeover, tear-down, and load-out of stage equipment (including staging, lighting, audio, and video systems) for rehearsals, events, and performances for both NWS and external/rental clients and partners held at the NWC, as well as for NWS events and productions elsewhere in the Miami area and on domestic and international tours

25%: Audio Operations

  • As directed by the Production Manager and in conjunction with the Director of Audio Services, serve as audio board operator for selected productions and events, ensuring that stage and audience areas are properly reinforced by sound amplification
  • As directed by the Production Manager and in conjunction with the Director of Audio Services, assist in placement of loudspeakers, microphones and other audio equipment as necessary

20%: Equipment and Facility Maintenance

  • As directed by the Production Manager and in conjunction with the Director of Audio Services, assist in the daily programming and software upkeep of the QSC and ClearCom audio systems within the NWC
  • As directed by the Production Manager and in conjunction with the Director of Audio Services, assist in the daily maintenance of all audio equipment and electronic instruments within the NWC

5%: Administrative/Other Duties

  • Participate in weekly departmental and other production meetings
  • Assist in other departmental projects and support other team members as necessary
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in show production or another related field; minimum of one to three years of relevant experience at an event production company, music school, orchestra, touring company or other performing arts organization; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated skill with latest-technology audio equipment (Digico Quantum5 and SD9 Consoles) and sound reinforcement (Meyer Sound Speakers)
  • General knowledge of various production equipment- lighting, video, projection, staging, rigging, etc.
  • General knowledge of performance and event conventions, terminology and backstage protocols
  • Basic knowledge of musical performance conventions and forms; basic music/score reading and familiarity with classical music preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word; experience with the Office 365 preferred
  • Ability to interpret diagrams, drawings, stage plots, input lists, equipment layouts, and other production documents
  • Strong teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and time-sensitive decision-making skills
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with colleagues, Fellows, artists, rental clients, vendors, and other stakeholders
  • Passion for the mission of NWS and commitment to its values of community, respect, excellence, accountability and trust

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Constantly moves, transports, positions, and removes items such as chairs, risers, boxes, tables, instruments, audio equipment, lighting instruments, cabling, and other items that may be bulky or heavy (up to 50 pounds); remains in a stationary position for less than 20% of time when actively performing essential job functions
  • Regularly ascends and descends stairs and stepladders
  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions in South Florida during event setups and operations
