Job summary

Syngenta Seeds, based in Perry, IA, seeks a Production Operator to run and adjust cleaning, sorting, and conveying equipment. The role focuses on inspecting product flow and maintaining seed quality while supporting data-driven decisions.

The candidate will collect samples, report non-conformities, and follow QA/QC standards, safety procedures, and site HSE policies. Strong physical stamina is required.

Qualifications

  • Must perform manual labor tasks including bending, lifting, standing for long periods.
  • Ability to work multiple shifts during seasonal changes.
  • Accurate record-keeping of production documents.
  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, adjust, and monitor cleaners, color sorters, gravity tables, and conveying equipment.
  • Inspect product flow and equipment performance throughout production run.
  • Monitor seed quality attributes such as purity, size, colour, damage, foreign material, and overall appearance.
  • Collect samples and communicate quality concerns or out-of-spec product promptly to supervisor or quality team.
  • Assist in keeping metrics and data dashboards to drive teamwork and data-driven decisions.
  • Alert senior technicians and leadership when non-conformities occur.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of QA/QC standards and compliance with internal procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance in production areas.
  • Maintain compliance with site HSE protocols and company policies.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machinery and report malfunctions promptly.

Job Description
  • Set up, operate, adjust, and monitor cleaners, color sorters, gravity tables, and conveying equipment
  • Inspect product flow and equipment performance throughout production run
  • Monitor seed quality attributes such as purity, size, colour, damage, foreign material, and overall appearance
  • Collect samples and communicate quality concerns or out-of-spec product promptly to the supervisor or quality team
  • Assist in keeping metrics and other information current on visual boards/data dashboards to drive teamwork and support data-driven decisions.
  • Alert senior technicians and leadership as needed when non-conformities in product or process variance occur.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to company's Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) standards.
  • Comply with internal procedures and support compliance with legal requirements applicable to local area.
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance in accordance with production area, site and company goals.
  • Maintain compliance with site HSE protocols and Syngenta HSE policies and employee code of conduct.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance, and report any malfunctions or repair needs promptly
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work multiple shifts during change of seasons
  • Able to perform manual labor tasks, such as bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull up to 70 pounds.
  • Accurate record-keeping of production documents.
  • Ability to effectively work in assigned areas of plant, such as warehouse, packaging, treating.

Critical Success Factors & Key Challenges:

  • Knowledge of safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant production software (SCADA).
  • Knowledge of routine maintenance procedures.
  • Accurate record-keeping of production documents.
