Position Summary: The Production Technician supports ceramic manufacturing operations by setting up and operating process equipment, performing established production procedures in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), and assisting engineers with process development, validation, and continuous improvement activities. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, this position helps ensure products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards while developing technical knowledge of ceramic manufacturing processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates product movement through production operations, including Furnace, Cleaning, Leak Test, and other manufacturing processes.
- Cross trains in multiple production processes and provides support to other departments as needed.
- Reads drawings, work instructions, and referenced documentation to determine requirements.
- Completes assignments on schedule while meeting or exceeding quality requirements.
- Identifies, troubleshoots, and helps resolve issues within job scope on equipment, fixtures, and/or products; uses precision instruments (e.g. micrometers, gauges, calipers, etc.) to make applicable adjustments.
- Assists Engineers with process development, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Moves products to the next stage of production in accordance with work instructions.
- Records completion of work steps, rework, and scrap transactions in computer system.
- Assists Engineering efforts with prototype builds, new product evaluations, engineering documentation, and other technical support activities, as required.
- Supports cost reduction efforts by preventing waste and reducing scrap costs.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local requirements/regulations and best practices.
- Maintains a clean and organized work environment to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Continuously identifies opportunities for improvement (OFI); suggests ways to improve processes; may provide input for fixture design/improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Associates degree in industrial technologies or other technical degree is required. Advanced degree, training, or certification(s) is preferred.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is required; experience with ceramics or technical ceramics manufacturing is preferred.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, process documentation, and basic engineering drawings.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Ability to use or learn precision measuring equipment such as calipers and micrometers.
- High level of manual dexterity with the ability to handle small or delicate components and operate hand tools effectively.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality products.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data entry.
