Job summary

Taurus Engineering, Mills, Wyoming, is seeking a Production Technician to support daily manufacturing and mechanical assembly within the Production Department. The Technician assists the Production Manager in maintaining quality standards, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and supporting an efficient production workflow.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years in machining/mechanical assembly environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T, dimensions, tolerances.
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
• Working knowledge of CNC machine setup and operation.
• Basic shop math: fractions, decimals, conversions.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate machining equipment to produce precision parts per drawings and work orders.
• Read and interpret drawings, tolerances, and tooling instructions.
• Load programs, set offsets, and adjust to hold tolerances.
• Perform first-piece and in-process inspections with micrometers, calipers, bore and height gauges, thread gauges.
• Deburr, clean, and prepare parts for inspection and assembly.
• Complete assembly tasks per instructions with hand/tools and torque equipment.
• Verify components are correct, undamaged, and within spec before assembly.
• Document completed operations and report nonconforming material to supervisor.

Job description

Overview

Taurus Engineering is seeking a Production Technician to support daily manufacturing and mechanical assembly operations within the Production Department. The Technician assists the Production Manager in maintaining quality standards, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and supporting an efficient production workflow.

This position performs precision mechanical assembly and collaborates with Engineering, Maintenance, and other cross-functional teams to support the manufacture of high-reliability products. The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Sets up and operates machining equipment (e.g., CNC lathes, CNC mills, and manual machines) to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and work orders.
• Reads and interprets engineering drawings and work orders for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes, and for tooling instructions such as fixtures, gauges, and cutting tools.
• Loads programs, sets tool offsets, and makes adjustments as needed to hold required tolerances, within the limits of authorized work instructions.
• Performs first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and thread gauges.
• Deburrs, cleans, and prepares machined parts for inspection and assembly.
• Produces precision units according to product specifications (SA1 and TL1) using schematics, assembly drawings, and other directions.
• Completes assembly tasks in accordance with the provided instruction guide, including proper use of hand tools, power tools, and torque equipment.
• Verifies that components are correct, undamaged, and within specification before assembly.
• Performs all required general quality inspections for both machined parts and assembled units.
• Documents completed operations.
• Identifies, tags, and segregates nonconforming material and reports it to the supervisor or lead.
• Ensures standard work and work instructions are documented, current, and followed, and recommends updates when improvements are identified.
• Operates all equipment in a safe and efficient manner and follows all safety procedures, including required PPE and lockout/tagout.
• Notifies the supervisor or lead of any machine or process-related concerns, including safety-related concerns and near misses.
• Attends the daily safety meeting.
• Maintains a clean, organized work area and performs routine equipment maintenance as assigned.
• Supports waste reduction and continuous improvement efforts.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3+ years of experience in a machining and/or mechanical assembly environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
• Working knowledge of CNC machine setup and operation.
• Basic shop math skills, including fractions, decimals, and metric/standard conversions.
• Ability to accurately complete production documentation.

Preferred

• Experience in the oil and gas, aerospace, or other precision manufacturing industries.
• Completion of a machining trade school or certificate program.
• Experience with torque procedures and pressure-rated assemblies.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 or API quality systems.
• Forklift or overhead crane certification.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. regularly, and heavier items with assistance or lifting equipment.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and use of hands for handling tools and parts.
• Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, coolants, oils, and moving mechanical parts.
• Required PPE includes safety glasses, safety-toe footwear, and hearing protection where designated.
