Job summary

UNFI is seeking a Lead Production Worker to oversee day-to-day line operations at our Edison distribution center. You will coordinate tasks, ensure on-time production, and uphold SQF and HACCP policies to guarantee safe, quality output.

The role requires hands-on machine setup for Form-Fill-Seal packaging, line supervision of packers and operators, safety checks, and training of new staff. You will also monitor quality, document issues, and collaborate with maintenance and QA to sustain

Qualifications

  • Experience in a food or related Manufacturing Production environment preferred.
  • Experience operating a Form-Fill-Seal packaging machine (vertical or Horizontal).
  • 1–2 years of experience in production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Machine setup and pre-operational checks for sanitary conditions; perform QC checks as per SOPs.
  • Monitor line for product defects; oversee packers and dumpers; provide direction to meet production needs.
  • Assist in cleaning machines and production equipment per SQF requirements.
  • Perform all functions of Production Worker I and Lead classifications: pack, seal, vacuum pack cases, load hopper, label cartons, and stack pallets.
  • Count and inspect packages; setup and load case erector; manage rework and material flow.
  • Check raw materials against items being packed for accuracy.
  • Complete lift equipment safety checklist.
  • Inform supervisors of faulty equipment needing maintenance; arrange adjustments/repairs.
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment and line personnel; maintain safety standards.
  • Follow HACCP, SQF, ISO, QS guidelines and company policies; perform other duties as assigned.

The Lead Production worker is responsible for the smooth operation and coordinates the day to day work for their lines, satisfying production needs, and maintaining consistent levels of service. Responsible for ensuring operational compliance to all food safety policies and procedures including SQF requirements. Takes care of mixing and roasting , ensuring compliance with QC and safety and trains other workers as needed.

Schedule

Monday - Friday 230PM - 11PM

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for Machine set-up, pre-operational checks for sanitary conditions and clean up when necessary i.e. allergen. Perform quality checks as per SOPs.
  • Observe for product defects: broken packaging, open seals, fill levels (over/under). Oversee the entire line and the support staff i.e. Packers and Dumpers and provide direction to satisfy production needs.
  • Assist in the cleaning of machines and production equipment in accordance to SQF requirements.
  • Perform all functions of a Production Worker I and Lead classifications, including pack, seal, and vacuum pack cases, load hopper, place cardboard into bailer, take the garbage out to compactor, label cartons, and stack pallets.
  • Counts and inspects packages while filling cartons. Setup and load case erector. Separates rework product back into the hopper.
  • Checks raw material to items being packed to make sure it is correct.
  • Completes safety checklist for lift equipment.
  • Inform supervisors of faulty equipment in need of maintenance; adjustments/repairs.
  • Safe operation of equipment and safety of line associates while working with the equipment.
  • Follow HACCP principles and Good Manufacturing Practices. Comply with Food and Personal safety procedures, Company Policies, and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in a food or related Manufacturing Production environment preferred
  • Experience in operating a Form, Fill, Seal packaging machine. Either Vertical or Horizontal.
  • 1-2 years of experience
Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities
  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Understands Safety guidelines
  • Knowledge of applicable production management system (prod)
  • Knowledge of HACCP, SQF, ISO, QS Guidelines and Procedures

  • Able to work in an environment containing Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Soy, Wheat, and Milk
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic computations.
  • Requires dexterity, basic mechanical reasoning, problem-solving, and the ability to learn.
  • Good verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area that promotes safety and efficiency.
  • The ability to function as an individual requiring minimal supervision. Team Engagement; Ability to work in cross-functional teams
  • Perform repetitive motions throughout shift such as push/pull/lift, bend continuously throughout the shift, lift up to 50 pounds, and be able to climb stairs or step up onto a platform several times throughout the shift.
  • Ability to stand for a long period of time (duration of the shift)
  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.
Work Environment

Onsite Role:

This position requires the associate to perform all duties at one of our UNFI locations, such as a distribution center or office.

Travel (minor)

This position may require the associate to travel to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for specific meetings or other business reasons.

Physical Environment/Demands

Warehouse Roles:

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
  • Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Perishable Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Grocery Operation.
  • Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures.
  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work-related equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
