Job summary

Internal Job Opportunities in Louisville, KY seeks a Production Supervisor to oversee shop floor operations for manufacturing, loading and shipping to meet quality and delivery expectations while upholding safety and cost standards.

The role requires leadership, experience in steel manufacturing, and knowledge of Epicor/MES systems to monitor work orders, labor, and machine schedules; strong problem-solving and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in steel manufacturing.
  • Two or four-year college degree or equivalent experience.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience required.
  • ISO 9001:2015 experience preferred.
  • Formal safety training (OSHA 30) preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma preferred.
  • Speak conversational English.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise shop employees: plan work schedules and conduct performance reviews.
  • Administer discipline and provide guidance for productivity improvements.
  • Maintain timesheets and monitor attendance and overtime.
  • Coordinate with Planning/Scheduling to set daily machine schedules.
  • Troubleshoot workmanship problems and ensure quality and delivery dates.
  • Support safety procedures and PPE compliance.
  • Resolve internal/external customer problems/complaints.
  • Promote teamwork and high employee morale.

Job description

The Production Supervisor may superviseone or more areas of the shop floorto support themanufacturing,loadingand shipping of all orders to meet and exceed the customers’ quality and delivery expectations, whilemaintainingestablished safety and cost standards. The Production Supervisormust understand and support all plant safety procedures and ensure all operators follow Standard Operating Procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Audit operator level inspections andassistthe Quality teaminidentifyingand preventing internal and externalerrors.
  • Interview and evaluate prospective employees; plan and coordinate training for new and existing employees for development and cross-training.
  • Coordinatewith Planning/Scheduling to set daily machine schedules;execute the work schedulewitheffectiveutilizationofmanpowerand equipment. Troubleshoot workmanship problems and supervise shop floor activities to meet or exceed all quality standardsand delivery dates.
  • Support preventive maintenance schedules with the Maintenance Department.
  • Understand and administer employee policies, practices,proceduresand work rules,monitoringindividual anddepartmentperformance.
  • Assistin the resolution of internal and external customer problems/complaints.
  • Promote high employee moraleandmaintainhigh employee retention; demonstrate the importance of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Specialized areas (welding,machining,shipping/receiving, etc.) may requireadditionaltasks and duties to keep the areahighly productive.
  • Understand and accuratelymaintain/utilize Epicor and MES, including report generation, time entry, job completion, issue errors,identifyingdirect/indirect labor, and monitoring jobs with idle activity.

  • Formal safety training (OSHA 30, NSC,etc.),preferred.Dutiesand Responsibilities
  • Supervise shop employees: plan work schedules (overtime, etc.), conduct performance and salary reviews, provide feedback and overall guidance, administer discipline, develop strategies for performance and productivity improvement, and review andmaintaintimesheets and time off requests.
  • Know, understand,implementand enforce safety procedures and guidelines, including the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Consistentlydemonstratethe importance of safety and ensure assigned personnel haveappropriate training, workinstructionand tools to be successful. Report safety violations and administerappropriate discipline.
  • Understand and implement quality practices and procedures, including customer specific requirements.
  • Self-motivation, desire to succeed.
  • Understandingofmanufacturing methodologies, like Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma,preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills,judgementand decision making, developing group cooperation and teamwork, coping with difficulties and emergencies,highdegree of organization skills.
  • Speak conversational English.
Physical Requirements
  • A bility to lift 20 lbs. as needed.
  • Ability to bend, stand, climb,twistand stoop for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform sedentaryworkincluding sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Ability tooperatestandard office equipment.
  • Havegoodvision of 20/30 with corrective lenses.
  • Ability tomaintaincoordination of hand and finger movements to grasp and manipulate objects with precision.
  • Travel as needed toaccomplishdesired results. Overnight travel may berequiredoccasionally.

Subject to environmental conditions that occur indoors and outdoors which includes but is not limited to

exposure to changing temperatures, loud noises, vibration from use of equipment and the following:

  • Hazards: Variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to highheator exposure to chemicals.
  • Atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin – fumes, odors, dust, mist,gasesor poor ventilation.
  • Oils: there is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
