  • Supervises the daily operations of hourly employees, assigns daily tasks, and authors shift process report to ensure necessary process manning and pertinent information transfer to maintain expected production levels.
  • Manage the production of coated product and operation of the department in accordance with ISO 9001 standards, ISO 14001 standards and OHSAS 18001 standards to ensure compliance at all times.
  • Helps to train new departmental employees in job responsibilities and work rules, including reviewing safety, quality, and "right-to know" procedures.
  • Manage and maintain efficient production by performing tasks including, but not limited to, process and equipment trouble shooting, raw material storage change-out, and operation of hot and cold end thickness/color monitors.
  • Maintains required production supplies by writing purchase and stores requisition to acquire necessary equipment and supplies in a timely manner.
  • Maintains daily records of, but not limited to, process parameters and/or changes, and personnel records, process performance numbers, and daily maintenance activities.
  • Coordinates the efforts of maintenance personnel as required to maintain production equipment, including, but not limited to, supervising maintenance projects, coater rebuilds, and writing work orders for non-emergency repairs and daily projects.
  • Promotes Coating department adherence to Pilkington policies related to safety, health, environment, and working conditions to ensure maximum safety of employees and surrounding community.
  • Maintain positive labor relations with hourly employees and resolves issues of contention, when possible.
  • Takes leadership role in employee involvement and safety coordination for Department, including facilitating employee scheduling for required physical testing.
  • Takes leadership role in employee involvement with process or procedural innovations, and changes for department.
  • Conducts safety audits as required and holds crew meetings to keep hourly personnel informed as to plant and corporate goals, results, and plans.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by Coating Manager or Other Production Management to improve quality and/or yield, reduce cost, and improve training.
  • Assists Shift Manager with thickness, product transition communication with other production departments.
  • Maintains complete and thorough communications with hourly personnel, other Coating Engineers, Hot End Process Engineers, Plant Scheduling, Plant Purchasing, Plant Security, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Cutting, and Glassmaking departments as required to maintain daily production operations at optimum level.
  • Employees the services of Human Resources to guide and direct the daily interaction of Company-Union personnel to the highest level of cooperation.
  • Maintains communications with Corporate Engineering and Research and Development personnel to facilitate process/equipment improvements.
  • Participates in seminars and/or training courses designed to assist in personal or professional development.
  • Overview of all necessary plant and department safety procedures/policies, with additional safety training in first aid, CPR, Hazmat, and optional hepatitis B vaccinations.
  • Overview of all plant and union rules and regulations, including but not limited to, personnel pay procedures, disciplinary policies, and overtime rules.
  • Overview of all process operations, equipment, and troubleshooting.
  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager

Salary range: $85,992 - $107,495

Scope/Dimensions

  • Incumbent has the organizational freedom to assign work within the context of the labor agreement to achieve shift goals.
  • Incumbent should interact with and provide constructive feedback for plant performance improvements to all plant personnel during various meetings and electronic communications.
  • Incumbent will work rotating shifts in a continuous production environment.
