Job summary

SunOpta is seeking a Production Supervisor for the day shift at its Allentown plant to plan and manage resources, drive safety, quality and efficiency, and coach the production team. You will review daily targets, report variances, and ensure GMP/HACCP standards are followed.

The role requires 5–7 years supervisory experience in food manufacturing, an Associate degree, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment on a 2-2-3 schedule. Lean experience is valued.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher required with supervisory experience advantageous.
• Experience in food manufacturing preferred; bilingual abilities a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supervise shift personnel to ensure safety, quality, and productivity.
• Achieve budgeted targets for material yield and labor usage for the shift.
• Maintain accurate production reporting and shift performance metrics.
• Lead daily production meetings and ensure SOP compliance.
• Collaborate with QA, maintenance, HR, and finance to reach targets.

Job Summary

The Production Supervisor (day shift) plans and manages the day-to‑day allocation of resources for designated shift (equipment, people, materials, and systems) to efficiently, safely and cost effectively achieve performance targets as agreed with Production Management. They also ensure that a high quality of products, services, housekeeping, and hygiene standards are maintained and improved in the area; review daily achievement of targets and report variances during on‑the‑floor and review meetings; and coach, mentor and develop team members to meet current and future business requirements.

Essential Functions of the Job

• Supervises employees to ensure safety, quality, and productivity.
• Achieves budgeted targets for raw material yield, labor, and packaging materials usage for shift.
• Responsible for the accuracy of all production reporting related to shift.
• Schedule and conduct daily production meetings with shift personnel.
• Audit's workstations to ensure SOPS are being following routinely.
• Collaborating with warehouse and quality assurance personnel to ensure prompt shipment of product.
• Responsible for the complete and accurate reporting of shift production data.
• Maintaining GMP / Housekeeping at a high level within the department through the involvement of all team members.
• Develops and recommends improvements of facilities, equipment, or procedures to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Oversees and or conducts shift training of new or existing employees.
• Drives productivity, quality, and safety initiatives throughout production to impact productivity and the cost structure.
• Establish and support a work environment of continuous improvement that supports the companies Quality policy, Quality System & the appropriate regulations for the area.
• Oversees the management of shift production personnel.
• Drives productivity, quality, and safety initiatives throughout production to impact productivity and the cost structure.
• Ensures production is following SunOpta QA standards, SOPs, HACCP, and GMPs.
• Member of the Lean Steering Committee.
• Committed to ensuring that the products produced meet all food safety and quality requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional groups including Human Resources, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Warehousing, and Finance to meet production targets.
• All other duties, as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Manages employees on a production shift.
• Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned shift.
• Ensure effective employee relations.
• Provide employee coaching and development.
• Resolve employee issues through problem resolution.
• Manage production line performance measures and provide regular progress reports to managers.
• Coach and counsel employees; document/discuss performance reviews on a timely basis.
• Perform accident investigations.
• Manage production priorities.
• Track absenteeism and timekeeping.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree in related field.
• 5 - 7 years supervisory experience in a food manufacturing facility.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in a related field.
• Bi-Lingual Spanish.
• LEAN Manufacturing.

Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to use critical thinking to plan and problem-solve.
• Must have a working knowledge of MS Word and MS PowerPoint
• Experience with Oracle is beneficial.

Additional Considerations

• Location: This position will be at the SunOpta Plant in Allentown, PA.
• Shift: This position will be a day shift (A) role on a 2-2-3 pattern; 5:30am to 6:00pm.
• Work Environment: Approximately; 95% of the work is performed in a production environment; 5% of work may be performed in an office environment.
