SunOpta is hiring a Production Maintenance Technician I for the Modesto, CA plant. The role involves preventive maintenance and repair of food manufacturing and packaging equipment, including aseptic fillers and form/fill/seal lines.

You will perform breakdown work under supervision, maintain safety and quality standards, and support CMMS data entry. The position operates on a 2-2-3 night shift (6pm–6:30am) with a $2.00/hour shift differential.

Responsibilities

Summary: (Basic Knowledge - 90 Days)

Production Maintenance Technician I is available for a qualified individual with proven maintenance skills. Responsibilities include efficient preventative maintenance and repair of food manufacturing and packaging equipment, including Aseptic Fillers, Cappers, Packer and/or High Temperature Processing (HTP) equipment. Can execute Preventative, Corrective and Break down Work Orders under direction of a Level II III, Lead or Supervisor. Perform other maintenance duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Wears PPE and adheres to all Food Safety requirements
• Strictly adheres to all Safety requirements and maintains safety training records
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Ensure safety in the workplace by eliminating unsafe conditions
• Performs planned, corrective, and unplanned maintenance on specified equipment
• Ability to read and understand Maintenance Manuals for proper repair and care
• Capable of effectively supporting more senior mechanics in complex repairs or services
• Protect Company assets by the direct intervention of any condition resulting in the abuse of equipment or buildings
• General computer skills
• Enters time, parts and follow ups into CMMS System
• Remain current on all Alchemy, Food Safety and Package Integrity Training as directed
• Skilled in the use of, and possession of, hand and power tools
• Executes the preventive maintenance program as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor
• Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards
• Maintains communication (oral and written) within the maintenance team to ensure smooth shift transitions
• Other duties as assigned or required

Safety

• Follow all facility human and food safety policies including proper use of PPE.
• Report all near misses and accidents to the production supervisor.

Quality:

• Adheres to all Quality Assurance System guidelines
• Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to conduct required testing for products prior to processing, after processing and prior to product release.
• Must comply and support the HACCP program.

Housekeeping

• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Assists all areas of the plant with general housekeeping.
• Cooperates with other shifts and the management team in the housekeeping endeavor.

Communications

• As a member of the FSQ team, ensures the effective shift communication and teamwork with the other operators occurs on each scheduled shift.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• A self-starter capable of working in a team-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Aseptic processing and high-speed form/fill/seal packaging experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages.
• Ability to solve practical problems and the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form.
• Knowledge of business and manufacturing software.

Additional Considerations:

• Location: This position will be at the SunOpta Plant in Modesto, CA.
• Shift: SunOpta currently has an opportunity on Night Shift, 6pm to 6:30 am on a 2-2-3 pattern.
• Availability: Some flexibility may be needed on occasion.
• Pay Rate: $36.75/hour
  • There is a $2.00/hour shift differential for working the 12-hour night shift on the 2-2-3 pattern.
  • Shift: This will be a Night Shift, 6:00 pm - 6:30 am, on a 2-2-3 pattern.
• Work Environment: This position will be in a production / manufacturing environment.
• Physical Demands: This role may require lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
