Position: Elk Grove Village Plant – 2nd Shift Supervisor
Reports To: Plant Manager
Salary Range: $65,000 - $70,000
SUMMARY
Oversees daily production operations, ensuring efficient and timely output while maintaining quality and adhering to safety standards. Responsible for supervising and communicating production operations to personnel to ensure that all goals and standards are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate production needs and oversee day-to-day operations.
- Create a work environment that motivates and empowers associates to meet productivity, quality, waste, sanitation, and safety expectations.
- Utilize IFS ERP system to assign schedules to the floor.
- Schedule coverage for employee breaks and lunches.
- Arrive 20 minutes before shift starts to facilitate shift handover.
- Check attendance phone line for absent employees and complete necessary paperwork.
- Coordinate work assignments if lines are down, e.g., cleaning lines and manifolds.
- Assist operators with product issues.
- Work within IFS ERP system to monitor raw material needs and supply, including ordering and follow-up on requisitions.
- Complete reports assessing production, downtime, and issues.
- Supervise, train, and coordinate activities of manufacturing employees, ensuring compliance with work rules and good manufacturing practices.
- Coordinate production flow across departments.
- Ensure proper start-up and shut-down procedures are followed.
- Maintain product quality through sanitation and housekeeping procedures.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance to ensure quality production.
- Motivate employees to improve efficiencies and meet targets.
- Communicate mechanical and process issues to appropriate personnel and follow up.
- Report major breakdowns or repairs to management and contractors.
- Ensure safety of plant associates, lead by example, and correct unsafe behaviors.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Report injuries and near misses, conduct investigations, and implement corrective actions.
- Work overtime, weekends, and other shifts as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- A 4-year college degree is preferred.
- Proficiency with PC, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and order-processing systems.
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years supervisory experience in confectionery, food, or pharmaceutical industries.
- Mechanical knowledge, including high-speed packaging machinery.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in a union environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of IFS, SAP, GMPs, HACCP, Safety, and OSHA standards.
- Ability to stand and walk for 8 hours and lift up to 50 pounds.
